Carrie Underwood to Star in The Sound of Music Remake on NBC

Nov 30, 2012 @ 12:40 pm

Carrie Underwood will bring the hills alive with The Sound of Music! NBC just announced the network will do a live broadcast of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical next year, and the country crooner will star as beloved nanny Maria von Trapp. “Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp,” Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. ”She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist.” The role was originally made famous by Julie Andrews in 1965′s film version, which took home the top Oscar for Best Picture of the Year. The network plans to air the three-hour show about a year from now, around the holiday season.

At the 40th Annual American Music Awards, fabulous fashion wasn’t the only thing that grabbed our attention! Complementing the stunning gowns and jaw-dropping jewels was pretty makeup and enviable hair. Carrie Underwood made a regal red carpet statement with gilded eyes, while Taylor Swift went for a dewy, au naturel finish. Carly Rae Jepsen played up her pretty peepers with winged liner and Christina Aguilera debuted a Cleopatra-inspired A-line bob. Carrie Underwood’s Fingerless Gloves: Love Them or Leave Them?

Nov 19, 2012 @ 11:00 am

Do Carrie Underwoods hands need protection on stage? Seems so! The country star, who just picked up the Favorite Country Album honor at last night’s American Music Awards, performed her new single “Two Black Cadillacs” wearing fingerless leather gloves by Johan Ku to accessorize her Rachael Cassar black tulle dress. And it’s a look she loves: We first spotted her wearing a studded, bedazzled gunmetal pair—also fingerless—to match her Tsemaye Binitie gown when she belted out her album’s title track “Blown Away” at the Country Music Awards earlier this month. Do you like the look? Tell us by voting in the poll below!

“This is unreal!” Taylor Swift said when she accepted her Favorite Female Country Star award at tonight’s 40th Annual American Music Awards, a show that featured 17 performances, broadcasted in 198 countries, with one mega-tribute to the legendary Dick Clark. “I’m really, really happy right now.” And that was just one of the happy moments of the evening, which kicked off with a red carpet that would make any fashion-lover smile with its mix of intricate embroidery and high-shine sparkles. Taylor Swift ditched her Red theme in favor of golden Zuhair Murad, Heidi Klum showed off her supermodel legs in a gilded Alexandre Vauthier mini, Carrie Underwood rocked her country charm in an electric purple Abed Mahfouz gown, and breakout star Carly Rae Jepsen played to her girl next door appeal in a sequin Gomez-Gracia halter. “Look at this crowd!” Carrie Underwood remarked as she opened the 46th Annual Country Music Awards, which she co-hosted for the fifth time with Brad Paisley. She was right: Country’s biggest stars packed the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville for Country’s Biggest Night, and like many things southern, the theme on the carpet was “The Bigger the Better.” Big gowns made big statements, including Taylor Swift in a Jenny Packham look embroidered with her favorite color red, Miranda Lambert in champagne Maria Lucia Hohan, Kellie Pickler in beaded ice blue Pamella Roland with an extra-long train, and the host of the evening Carrie Underwood in ivory chiffon Reem Acra.
