New York City has been abuzz for the past four days as countless designers have showcased their latest collections during New York Fashion Week, and while the industry has been busily attending shows, so has some of Hollywood’s most stylish. AnnaSophia Robb, Carrie Underwood, Jamie Chung, and many more have been spotted in the front row taking in the collections, and like the rest of us they have been actively sharing their favorite moments on Instagram. From a cute selfie from Robb and Underwood to a backstage shot of Chung and the designers of Cushnie et Ochs, click through the gallery to see the 11 celebrity fashion week ‘grams that had us double-tapping this weekend.
Carrie Underwood is showing off her pitch-perfect complexion as Almay‘s newest spokesperson. The star, who recently launched a line of nail colors with Nicole by OPI, just signed on as the new global brand ambassador for the beauty giant. “Honestly, I could never be associated with a company I didn’t believe in,” she said in a release. “I love Almay’s positive approach to beauty because it’s so important to celebrate our natural beauty and enhance what makes us unique. I’m also really impressed by their products. There’s really something for everyone and every occasion.” Underwood will front Almay’s full range, from skincare to color cosmetics, and she’s in good company — the ever-radiant Kate Hudson is also one of the brand’s celebrity faces, and we’re already wondering if we can expect to see a collaboration from the duo in the upcoming year. Keep an eye out for Carrie’s first campaign, which rolls out this week, and head over to almay.com to see behind-the-scenes pictures and footage!
From winning American Idol in 2005 to becoming one of the biggest country music stars, Carrie Underwood has certainly become a powerhouse in music—and now, she is adding live musical theater to her ever-expanding resume, playing the role of Maria in The Sound of Music. For the past two months, the cast has been tirelessly rehearsing to perfect this three hours of a new imagining of the iconic musical and beloved 1965 movie. The Sound of Music will be a televised live event—unlike anything else—that demands an immaculate vocal performance from Underwood, and joining her for the night is True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer who is stepping into the role of Captain Von Trapp. Here are a few of our favorite things to get you ready for the show tonight:
1. The Music
Although the event will be sung live, to get a sneak peak of the music go to iTunes to download the companion soundtrack. The soundtrack includes musical numbers that only appear in the stage version and not the iconic film—so there are sure to be a few surprises.
2. The Costumes
The cast will be in front of ten cameras tonight, using the commercial breaks for costume changes. The costumes will be updated classics, but later on December 21 Profiles in History will auction off 14 costumes from the original film.
3. Broadway Veterans
Laura Benanti, who will play Elsa Schrader (aka Fraulein Schrader), is no stranger to the stage as she won a Tony Award in 2008 for her role in the revival of “Gypsy.” But, also make sure not to miss 5 time Tony winner Audra McDonald (from Private Practice) who will play Mother Abbess and Smash‘s Christian Borle as Max Detweiler.
4. Fresh Faces
Newbies Michael Campayno and Ariane Rinehart have the mighty task of playing the star crossed young lovers Rolf and Liesl. Both currently college drama students, these two are the next ones to watch!
5. Julie’s Blessing
Julie Andrew’s take on Maria in the iconic movie is remembered well—as is Mary Martin’s original Broadway production in 1959—and Julie was sure to wish Carrie well as she’s told various reporters, “It’s a lovely piece, and I do hope it works for Carrie, because she’s lovely and I’m a fan. I wish her well.”

Covering up completely on the red carpet runs the risk of looking too conservative, but flashing skin poses its obvious risqué set of problems. What’s a celebrity to do? Sheer gowns tastefully walk the line between sexy and reserved, revealing skin while remaining fully clothed. While the sheer concept is nothing new, we have noticed a recent surge of stars opting for the transparent cloth over its opaque counterpart. We really took note of the trend when Jennifer Lawrence made headlines hitting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire premiere in a sheer gray knit Christian Dior Couture gown. Then, in true Country Music Awards spirit, Carrie Underwood glammed it up in a sheer Ralph & Russo Couture number dotted with all-over crystal embellishments. More recently, Pippa Middleton embraced—and perfected—the effect to a (royal) tee. And as a relative to royalty, Middleton did her due diligence, keeping her look sophisticated and utterly refined by wearing a nude slip underneath to prevent accidental slip-ups. From overtly see-through to subtly transparent, it’s clear that sheer is in.
Last night at the 47th Annual Country Music Association Awards, host Carrie Underwood changed looks a staggering 10 times! The singer brought an array of designer outfits to the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, and started the night off in a Ralph & Russo Couture dusky-pink sheer gown covered in delicate rose-gold floral-and-crystal embellishments on the red carpet. From navy embroidered Badgley Mischka pants and a white crop top, to a show-stopping Christian Siriano ruffly pink floral gown, she dazzled during her hosting duties. Carrie’s choices — all paired with her signature wavy locks — spanned the style spectrum. Though Carrie didn’t top last year’s record-breaking 12 outfit changes, her other 2013 looks (including a silver Grecian-inspired Talbot Runhof gown, a tuxedo romper and a Georges Chakra mod pink, orange, and black stomach-baring trapeze dress) certainly hit the mark!
Pink, Taylor, Rihanna, and Carrie, oh my! Four of the music industry’s biggest female stars have received nominations for the 2013 American Music Awards, and it’s Taylor Swift (who just so happens to be InStyle‘s November cover girl) who leads the pack of women with the most nominations with five — yes five — noms this year. Aside from the awards themselves, we’re looking forward to seeing what these four ladies will wear to wow us on the red carpet like they usually do. Judging by past AMA looks, we’re confident they won’t disappoint! At last year’s award show, we loved Swift’s floral embroidered Zuhair Murad frock, which was a nice departure from the 23-year-old’s oft-favored long gowns. Fellow country star and this year’s Favorite Female Country Artist nominee Carrie Underwood also wore an embroidered dress that year, but she went with a bold color, choosing an electric purple Abed Mahfouz. Pink, who is nominated in two categories this year, kept her look at last year’s awards demur, walking the carpet in a bronze Catherine Deane gown featuring a laser-cut bodice. And last but certainly not least, Rihanna — who trails Taylor by one nomination — has been absent from the awards show for the past two years, but it’s hard to forget her stunning scarlet sheer and floral embroidered Elie Saab gown at the 2010 awards. For the full list of nominees, visit theamas.com (where you can also vote for your favorite artist) and catch the 2013 American Music Awards November 24, airing live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.

Country’s biggest night is around the corner and just today, the Country Music Association released the full list of the 2013 nominees for the 47th annual Country Music Awards Awards. Keeping with tradition, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will be upholding their posts as the evening’s hosts for the sixth year in a row at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville (we can’t help but wonder how many dresses Underwood will change into this year!). Among the nominees, Taylor Swift and newcomer Kacey Musgraves lead the list with six nominations each, while Swift is the only woman nominated for the Entertainer of the Year award (she won twice before) proving that yes, girls do run the world! Scroll down to see the full list of nominees—including Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert, and more—and tune in on November 6th when the CMAs air live on ABC.
Now here’s a collaboration that hits all the right notes — Carrie Underwood has teamed up with Nicole by OPI to develop a line of nail polishes! While the brand previously released collections with Selena Gomez and the cast of Modern Family, respectively, Underwood is the first star to get a custom lacquer blended especially for her. “This is the first time Nicole by OPI has ever designed a signature shade for one of our celebrity partners,” OPI’s executive VP and artistic director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann said of the aptly-named Carrie-d Away hue, a textured gold. “In working closely with Carrie, we came up with 14 nail lacquers that truly encapsulate her soulful spirit and showcase different facets of her personality.” Underwood is no stranger to bold manicure choices — she added a fun statement nail to her classic red manicure at the Grammy Awards this year — so we’re excited to see the striking hues she has in store. The line will be available in January of 2014, but stay tuned to see more previews closer to the launch date!
