First Look: Betsey Johnson for Sephora by OPI

Betsey Johnson is turning her high-octane designs into a line of nail polishes for Sephora! Of course, the shades include her signature hot pink (inset), which gives off the scent of Johnson’s new Too Too fragrance once dry. “It’s outrageous, pretty, pink, and totally rock and roll!“ the designer said of her new nail line in a release. Johnson’s collection includes seven nail polishes ($9.50 each), three nail polish strip designs ($12 each), stick-on nail charms ($5), and a six-piece mini lacquer set ($24). Designer Christmas Trees Now on Display!

Betsey Johnson and Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz are showing their holiday spirit by giving Christmas trees designer makeovers! Johnson teamed with The Plaza in New York City to design the hotel’s first official tree, a candy pink-covered timber inspired by the famed Eloise from Kay Thompson’s 1955 children’s book. On the other side of the pond, Alber Elbaz of Lanvin designed a tree for London hotel Claridge’s, which features marionettes dressed in Lanvin-designed hotel uniforms. Both will be up through January 9th. Season’s greetings!

If you had to pick your favorite celebrity, who would you choose? In celebration of New York Fashion Week—which starts tomorrow!—we quizzed a few of our favorite designers to find out who gets them starry-eyed. Why Did Betsey Johnson Make a Barbie Hat?

Betsey Johnson designed some Mad-Hatter-worthy toppers for the Kentucky Derby, and two are being auctioned off for charity! The hats will be unveiled at the Kentucky Derby on May 6th and 7th, and Johnson, a breast cancer survivor, is donating the proceeds to The National Breast Cancer Coalition andGilda’s Club of Louisville. One of the hats up for grabs is the Barbie Hat, pictured, which Johnson says is “so much fun.” It will be auctioned off at Gilda’s Club. The other hat, a Rose Hat, includes “whimsical looking spiders and bugs” Johnson told WWD, and will be auctioned from April 26th to May 7th at BiddingforGood.com. Exact rules have not been finalized for either sale, but check the sites closer to Derby Day. Happy bidding!

Legendary fashion designer Betsey Johnson, known for her quirky sequined-covered designs and her runway show finale cartwheel, celebrated her 68th birthday in style last night. In an bubble-gum pink dress surrounded by a crew of blonde dread-locked doppelgangers, Johnson rode in on a vintage red bike, and walked the pink carpet into her pink balloon-bedecked Soho store. Guests munched on pink cupcakes and bite-size desserts served on pink spoons, and, at the end of the night, Johnson made her exit via a pink Mini Cooper limo. Happy Birthday Betsey!
