Your old-school mud mask is getting some competition! There’s an influx of sheet mask launches this spring, and the products pack serious benefits. The ultra-thin sheets come pre-soaked with nutrients that battle signs of aging, sun spots, and blemishes, plus their compact size makes them perfect for travel. See our favorites below!

1. BEST FOR UNEVEN TONE
Mint extract, vitamin C, and salicylic acid in Giorgio Armani’s Bright Infusion Mask ($175 for six; giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com) tackle the stubborn spots left by the sun, aging, or acne.

2. BEST FOR DRY SKIN
Consider Dr. Jart’s Hydrogel Mask ($9; sephora.com) a tall glass of water for parched skin. The ample amount of hyaluronic acid gives tired winter complexions a boost in hydration.

3. BEST ALL-AROUND
Confused over which product to try? Go for SK-II’s Facial Treatment Mask ($90 for six; sk-ii.com), which imparts a more radiant finish, and is gentle enough for sensitive skin types.

4. BEST FOR ANTI-AGING
The collagen in Masque Bar’s Wrinkle Reducing Sheet Masks ($10 for three; target.com) works to diminish fine lines, and strenghthen the outer layers of your skin.

5. BEST BEFORE A BIG EVENT
Smooth on the When Essence Makeup Base Gel Mask ($28 for four; sephora.com), which is infused with grapefruit seed extract, before getting ready to give your makeup a budge-proof canvas.

How to Get Glowing Skin Like Lauren Conrad

Apr 6, 2013 @ 9:30 am

Chalk it up to the sunny California weather, but when it comes to sporting a flawless tan, Lauren Conrad sets the bar high. To impart the most natural-looking glow, skin expert Kate Somerville, who has worked with the star, advises going for a product just as organic—next to tanning in the sun, that is. Somerville recommends looking for a sunless tanner free of parabens. Our favorite? The fresh-scented St. Tropez Gradual Tan Everyday Face ($25; sttropeztan.com). Thanks to the absence of harsh chemicals, it’s just as easy on the most sensitive skin types as it is on the planet. Click the image to get more celebrity skincare tips!

Apr 1, 2013 @ 2:00 pm

Here’s a beauty launch that you really oughta know about: Alanis Morissette and Star Trek stud Zachary Quinto designed custom packaging for Kiehl’s! Both stars created limited-edition lids for the brand’s famed Ultra Facial Cream, and the collaboration is anything but “Ironic” for activists Quinto and Morissette—all proceeds from the upcoming launch will benefit Recycle Across America. (The Earth-friendly beauty brand enlisted the help of Rosario Dawson and Florence Welch for a similar project last year.) Keep an eye out for Quinto’s and Morissette’s designs when they land in Kiehl’s stores nationwide and kiehls.com later this month, just in time for Earth Day on April 22.

BB Creams, CC Creams, DD Creams, and Foundation: Everything You Need to Know!

Mar 25, 2013 @ 3:15 pm
CC creamsCourtesy Photo (5)

The latest skincare must-have has been brought to you by the letter “C!” In the fall, we reported that CC creams were starting to launch stateside, following in the footsteps of the pioneer BB creams before them. Now, Clinique is launching their own ultra-hydrating version, with many of our favorite beauty brands developing more. In terms of coverage, CC creams lie between the tinted moisturizer and BB end of the spectrum, with the BB creams delivering a more opaque finish. But that’s not all—in June, beauty brand Julep will continue the trend with the letter “D” when it launches its “dynamic-do-it-all” DD cream. Overwhelmed by the options? We put together a helpful guide on all of the products, and what makes each one different from the next—from primers, BB creams, CC creams, and every alphabetical variation in between. Click through our gallery to find out more.

Emilia Clarke’s Makeup Artist Reveals the Secret to a Younger-Looking Smoky Eye

Mar 19, 2013 @ 2:19 pm

Wow, what a look for an exiled queen! It’s so refreshing to see Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s hit fantasy drama Game of Thrones, looking so modern and chic when she traded in her travel-worn Dothraki garb and braided silver wig for a royal blue Victoria Beckham dress and cobalt smoky eye at last night’s season three premiere, held at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles. And we caught up with her makeup artist Dawn Broussard (@Dawn_Broussard) to get the inside scoop! “With the color of the dress and how it was sweet, modern, and streamlined, we went with a smoky eye to make it a point of interest on the face,” said the makeup artist, who has worked with Clarke for 18 months. “I wanted it to have drama and also have it be innocent and elegant.” To do so, she prepped the face using Biore’s Acne Clearing Scrub ($7 at drugstores) to “pull out impurities,” she said, then applied a hydrating serum to infuse moisture. Broussard then used a lot of steel grays and silver accents, but blended it for a seamless glow. If you try the look, make sure to listen to Broussard’s most important tip: Pair heavy eyes with a peachy-pink toned cheek and lips to keeps the look fresh, modern, and younger-looking. “It’s so intense and dramatic and these tones play off the dark colors for a more innocent look,” she told InStyle.com. Noted!
