Found It! Eva Longoria’s Graphic Eyeliner

May 20, 2013 @ 6:30 pm

Eva Longoria brought the drama to the Cannes premiere of Le Passe by complementing her elegant Zuhair Murad number with an equally elegant cat eye. To create the look, Longoria’s makeup artist contoured her eyes using L’Oreal’s Colour Riche Quad in Army Brat ($8; lorealparisusa.com) and finished with a thick sweep of L’Oreal’s Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in black ($9; lorealparisusa.com). Getting the precise shape can be tricky, so we recommend looking down into your mirror as you apply the product. This helps you get the color as close to your lashes as possible, eliminating the risk of any telltale eyeliner gaps. Finally, use an angled cotton swab to bring the winged-out edges to a point.

Chanel’s New Look: Electric Blue Makeup

May 14, 2013 @ 1:50 pm

Karl Lagerfeld presented his resort collection for Chanel in Singapore last week. The lineup revolved around the classic color palette of black, white, and navy, but it was the eyes where you saw color pop off the runway. Chanel’s contributing makeup artist Peter Philips created the electric look—thanks to Chanel’s Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in True Blue—which lit up the eyes against an otherwise fresh, clean face. He finished it off by lining top lids with Noir Intense, a black hue, and swiped on several coats of Chanel’s Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir. Daring enough to try the look yourself? Shop the neon color for $30 at nordstrom.com.

Orange You Glad Hayley Williams of Paramore’s MAC Collection Is in Stores Today?

Paramore’s music is all about staying true to who you are—and now the band’s frontwoman Hayley Williams is taking that same concept to makeup with a new collaboration with MAC Cosmetics, available exclusively online starting today. “We made a collection that represents who I am as a girl and as a woman,” the singer told InStyle.com over the phone as she geared up to release her new album, Paramore (out now) and go on tour (see dates and cities here). “When we started working on it, I was surprised and excited by the fact that we weren’t just doing pretty makeup that would sell. We did it to represent  who I am, and it’s just exactly me.” Her lineup includes four products with a ginger tint: Sounds Like Noise, a matte lipstick ($15), Riot Gear, a nail lacquer ($16); Daydreaming, an eye shadow ($15); and Lightscapade, a skin finisher ($29). Her inspiration—her now-signature neon hair. “I started dyeing my hair a bright orange at 18,” she said. “I didn’t have tattoos or piercings, but hair color was a fun way to express myself. I feel more like myself when it’s a bright color, like all is right in the world when I have orange hair.” And it’s a message she’s carrying through to the makeup collection: “Self expression is so important to being a teenager, and it’s healthy to have that, whether you’re writing songs or playing around with fashion or beauty,” she said. “That’s what this collection is about. You can wear it however you want. I’m excited to see the younger fans try it. I love to see this whole generation of girls who are trying to figure out who they are and their place. I love being a part of it.” Visit maccosmetics.com to shop it now.

Editor-Tested: Fusion Beauty’s Lash Serum Actually Gave Us Fuller Lashes

Apr 3, 2013 @ 8:00 am

With all the lengthening and conditioning products on the market, we asked InStyle.com Assistant Beauty Editor Marianne Mychaskiw to take Fusion Beauty’s lash serum on a road test and report back with the results. Read on to see how the product fared.

MARIANNE’S TAKE ON LASH SERUM: “Say what you will about Kim, Kourtney, and Khloe, but the Kardashian sisters never fail to give me lash envy. The trio made me realize I needed to step up my own lash game, but falsies and extensions intimidated me. Enter Fusion Beauty’s StimulashFusion Intensive Conditioning Treatment ($89; fusionbeauty.com). The product claimed full growth in six weeks, but after only two weeks of applying it nightly, my eyelashes were so long that not only did I have to buy a new lash curler to fit them, people also asked me if they were real. And if you’ve ever over-tweezed your brows, there is hope—the serum took my arches from a weird shape to a fuller, more presentable state. Now, I’ll apply the product every two days to keep new lash growth in check, and I’ll forever sing its praises if someone asks which mascara I’m using.”

The Exact Makeup Products Emilia Clarke Uses in Breakfast at Tiffany’s on Broadway

Mar 21, 2013 @ 1:00 pm

The stage production of Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s opened on Broadway last night with Emilia Clarke in the role of Miss Holly Golightly. On stage, she worked a true-to-the-novella ’40s face palette (we saw it with our own eyes!), a look designed by makeup artist Sonia Kashuk, who also trained the star in how to do it for the nightly show. “It was more of a very clean, simple face, not so iconic to Audrey,” explained Kashuk. “In fact, we really wanted to stay away from that. So I think it pushed it in a new direction, but still very refined and very polished.” To create Holly’s signature beauty look, she used two pieces from her very own Target collection—the Super Sheer Shimmering Highlighter ($10, target.com) and the Couture Eye Palette ($20, target.com). “The highlighter gave a little lift and helped contour her face so it would be illuminated,” she added. Beautiful!
