Nicole Richie has been getting busy in the beauty world lately — in late February, the star posted an Instagram that was altered to look as if she dyed her hair purple, only to make the dramatic change in real life a few days later. We’ve seen Richie sport blunt bangs, the long bob, and a wide variety of updos, but her pastel violet hair is the most dramatic change she’s made yet, and the coordinating color of her NO Rules fragrance has us wondering: Did her new scent bring on the change? Possibly! The exotic blend of Mediterranean orange flower, purple jasmine, Turkish almond blossom, and vanilla bean is housed in a frosted lavender bottle, and was inspired by Richie’s carefree attitude to fashion — a philosophy mirrored with her outlook on hair, we’re sure. “I try not to go by any rules, especially when I’m talking about mixing prints,” she says. “I’m so inspired by the ’60s and ’70s, and their rule was that there were no rules.” Whatever sparked the idea, we definitely applaud the star’s bold move, and we’re glad to see her purple reign continue in both the hair and fragrance realms. Find NO Rules in department stores nationwide this month for $45, and click through our gallery to see more celebrity hair makeovers!
Marianne Mychaskiw, assistant editor: “Agent Provocateur’s wide range of lingerie always sets the bar high when it comes to determining what is sexy, and I have yet to find a scent more seductive than the brand’s original Eau de Parfum ($115; nordstrom.com). One spritz of the heady floriental blend helps me channel my inner Marilyn – I love how it starts out strong with notes like Moroccan rose, saffron, and jasmine, then softens throughout the day as subtle elements like amber and gardenia start to come through.”
Sheryl George, associate beauty editor: “I love Stella McCartney’s fragrance Stella ($72; sephora.com)…I always get compliments when I wear it and I love that it’s got a sexy vibe without being over the top or super intense.”
Kahlana Barfield, beauty director: “I love iProfumi di Firenze’s Talco Delicato fragrance ($110 at barneys.com). I’ve been wearing it for years and never feel quite as sexy when I try other scents. It smells like baby powder (in a good way!). I spritz it on my neck, wrist and hair in the morning and it lasts all day.”
Selene Milano, senior beauty editor InStyle.com: “Fragrance is like clothing: sometimes you wear something for yourself or other women—and then some make you feel sexy enough for a date. When I wear Florabotanica by Balenciaga ($100 at sephora.com) my husband always notices. And I’ve had two male friends buy it for their wives!”
Angelique Serrano, beauty director: “I’ve tried time and again to describe how sexy Frederic Malle Carnal Flower ($350; fredericmalle.com) smells to those who haven’t experienced it – and I always fall short. It brings to mind hot, heady tuberose flowers laced with all of their creamy sweetness and a hint of spice. It’s incredibly addictive and just as magnetic. Whenever I wear the fragrance, a stranger stops to ask me about it. Sometimes I reveal the name, and sometimes I keep my signature to myself.”
Chalk it up to her super-fun disposition, but we’re pretty sure no one does a girls’ night quite like Taylor Swift. With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, we’ve already started planning our own night out with friends, so we caught up with the star to find out her go-to ensemble for such an occasion. As it turns out, her options are as varied as her extensive discography.
“One night we decided to randomly go out to dinner dressed in ’50s prom dresses we bought at a vintage thrift shop that day,” Swift told InStyle.com exclusively. The singer’s flair for retro-inspired pieces — which we think are perfectly complemented by a spritz of her latest eponymous fragrance ($50; kohls.com) — is evident in her red carpet choices, but she’s more than happy to swap her glamorous ensembles for something more low-key if her friends favor a night in. “Sometimes we stay in, and half of them have just come from work and some of us are in our pajamas,” she added. “We could be wearing lipstick, or no makeup. When my friends and I go out, it could be to anything!” No matter the occasion, we’re sure Swift and her besties will have no shortage of fun — and look fabulous while doing so! From Cupcakes to White Chocolate, Britney Spears Shares the Scoop on Her Flirty Fantasy Fragrance RemixJan 10, 2014 @ 8:20 am
Britney Spears knows a thing or two about a good remix — The Dreaming version of her song “Perfume” is in heavy rotation on our playlists, and now, she’s allowing life to imitate art by remixing her iconic Fantasy fragrance into two new scents. Fantasy the Naughty Remix and Fantasy the Nice Remix will be rolling out in February, each presenting a different side to the star. Judging by her sexy red carpet picks and risky dance routines, we’re sure Spears had no trouble channeling her seductive side to mix up the Naughty Remix, which is a flirty blend of white chocolate orchid, cupcake accord, orris root, and heady woods. We couldn’t help but wonder, what was her inspiration for the Nice Remix? “My nice fantasies are definitely dreamier and bright, such as spending a day at the beach with my boys or a romantic dinner with that special someone,” she told InStyle.com exclusively of the airy jasmine, kiwi, and musk blend. “The Nice Remix shows the more confident, playful side of me.” We love it! Find Britney’s Fantasy Remixes at Kohl’s locations nationwide and kohls.com for $58 each starting in February.
Kristen Stewart‘s ad for Balenciaga‘s latest fragrance was just released, and it looks oddly familiar. The campaign for the French fashion houses’s new bright and spicy rose-scented perfume Rosabotanica stars the actress—and two-time face of Balenciaga’s Florabotanica fragrance—topless and adorned with brightly colored flowers. Almost identical to her last ad for the brand, Stewart looks gorgeous with a wispy updo and killer smoky eye, but the two images appear like they were shot in the same sitting. Seemingly, the only difference is that the actress faces the camera in the new ads, while her back was turned to us in the past campaign. As similar as the two ads are, you can’t deny that Stewart looks amazing!

Prada‘s cool, edgy younger sister is getting into the fragrance game! Miu Miu, the high-fashion label bearing creator Miuccia Prada’s nickname, has just teamed up with Coty to develop a line of signature fragrances, set to launch in 2015. Since the scent is in its initial phase, no additional details have emerged as of yet, but if the runway pieces serve as an indicator, we’re hoping to see the bottle decked out in a trendy colorblocked scheme with an edgy twist. “Miu Miu is one of the most refined and respected luxury houses in the world, and one of the fastest-growing global brands in the whole fashion industry,” said Coty’s CEO Michele Scannavini. “It is an exciting opportunity for Coty to build a worldwide fragrance business for Miu Miu.” We’ll say!
