Found It! Carey Mulligan’s Really Red Lipstick from Cannes

May 16, 2013 @ 11:55 am

While the true red lipstick Carey Mulligan wore to the Cannes Film Festival yesterday could have doubled as a hue worn by her ’20s-era Great Gatsby character Daisy Buchanan, the precise shape and her clean skin gave the look a current edge. “It’s a big statement for her and we wanted to keep it as modern as possible,” said her makeup artist Georgie Eisdell, who used the NARS hue in Jungle Red ($26; narscosmetics.com). “I loved the idea of contrast with her pale pink dress, and I thought a red lip would be striking.” Before sweeping on the color, Eisdell lined the star’s lips using the matching Jungle Red lip pencil ($24; narscosmetics.com). If you can’t find an exact matching color set, use a nude lip liner to ensure a perfect application. Use a lip brush to avoid any uneven areas, and clean up any smudges with a swipe of concealer. The precise shape is key to recreating Mulligan’s look.

Found It! Kate Mara’s Melon Lip Color

Apr 10, 2013 @ 2:30 pm

Not quite pink, but more intense than the traditional nude, the cantaloupe-hued lipstick Kate Mara wore to the Kate Young for Target launch amped up her natural lip color without overshadowing her delicate silver eye. “A warm-toned melon lip is a great way to warm up fair skin and add an understated pop of color to the face,” said Mara’s makeup artist Nick Barose, who used the NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Lodhi. “I used an orangey tint on her cheeks, then matched it with a jumbo lip pencil that creates a fresh sheen on the lips.” The user-friendly stylo makes applying the color as easy as signing your name, and the versatile hue pairs well with both smoky eyes and minimal makeup alike. Pick up the color for $25 at narscosmetics.com.

Runway Beauty Looks We Love: Thakoon

Feb 14, 2013 @ 7:30 pm

In a twist of seasons, designer Thakoon Panichgul drew inspiration for his fall beauty look from warmer climes. “Thakoon’s winter collection is inspired by summer,” said NARS lead makeup artist Diane Kendal. “It was a combination of rich fabrics with short-sleeved dresses, and heavy stoles with dragonflies.” Kendal reflected the deep tones with a piercing, slightly metallic, blue statement eye, while lead hairstylist Odile Gilbert created a sleek updo with avant-garde fringe for the hair. We went backstage before the models took to the catwalk to get all the behind-the-scenes beauty details from the show. Click through our gallery to get the complete breakdown!

Found It! Allison Williams’ Coral Lipstick

Sep 19, 2012 @ 5:37 pm

Allison Williams was a front-row fixture at New York Fashion Week, and we just had to pull her aside at Prabal Gurung‘s show to ask what she put on her pucker to achieve such a gorgeous coral color (a perfect match to the piping on her dress). ”Julie Harris, makeup artist extraordinaire, is the architect behind this today,” Williams told InStyle.com. Her personal pro layered on NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Pop Life. Pick one up now for $24 at narscosmetics.com.

Pop Culture-Inspired Fall Makeup: Disney and Andy Warhol

Makeup pays tribute to the pop icons this fall! Found It! Blake Lively’s Sexy Red Lipstick

Jul 27, 2012 @ 3:05 pm

Nothing ties a retro look together like a true red lipstick and a flick of liquid liner. Case in point: Blake Lively’s Old Hollywood-inspired getup. “Blake wanted a classic matte red lip,” said her makeup artist Elaine Offers. “We went with the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils in Dragon Girl and Red Square.” These jumbo lip crayons take the guesswork out of choosing a matching liner, and the velvety formula keeps your pucker from feeling parched. Added bonus: We love how Red Square, an orange-based scarlet, adds a touch of warmth to the blue-based Dragon Girl. Pick up both shades for $24 each over at narscosmetics.com.
