Yes, the 1990s have made a comeback! 2013 was filled with nostalgic moments from the pre-millennial period—crop tops, acid-wash shorts, bucket hats, the Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block on tour, so much grunge, and Herbal Essences. We saw it all over the spring 2014 runways, as brands like Saint Laurent and Alexander Wang were clearly inspired by the time period that gave us Clueless and the Spice Girls. Reinventing specific styles, like mules, overalls, and the blatant logomania that once defined the decade, these runway looks were far from copies, giving the just-forgotten trends their own 21st-century spin. All this reminiscing has us wondering what’s next! Sisqó? How about burgundy lips, a Kate Moss and Johnny Depp reunion, designer Todd Oldham, and Daria?
There is a ’90s renaissance in the beauty world! First, Herbal Essences is bringing back two of its most memorable scents from its Smooth and Shine collections, which originally launched in 1995. And this time, they’ll also be eco-friendly by ditching the ingredients of sulfates and silicone. (Now doesn’t that make you say, YES, YES, YES?!) Also making a comeback: Jane Cosmetics. The brand returns with a new lineup for spring—the first since it left drugstore shelves in 2009—and also established the Friends of Jane network to support and empower women through beauty, fashion, and charity. Shop Jane’s lineup now at janecosmetics.com, and find the Herbal Essences products on the brand’s Facebook page starting January 10th, before they hit drugstores at the end of this month.

For Gossip Girl‘s poshest star, happiness can be simply defined with minimal makeup and wild hair. While her character Blair Waldorf may love pricey blowouts and designer cosmetics, Leighton Meester told InStyle (in our August issue, on stands now) that “in my normal life, I don’t even really wear makeup. I’ll just use a little cheek stain, curl my lashes, and put on some lip balm and sunscreen.” When the Herbal Essences spokesmodel isn’t working, she tries to “treat her hair with kindness because it takes so much abuse! On days off I let it air-dry.” Want to know what Meester uses to achieve her totally natural yet completely gorgeous look? Click through our gallery to see which products she can’t live without.
Blake Lively isn’t the only hair star on the set of Gossip Girl—Leighton Meester has just been named the global ambassador for Herbal Essences. Her favorite product from the line? “Tousle Me Softly…It’s really a look that I love since my hair is stick straight,” Meester told WWD. The actress, whose stylist is Herbal Essences spokesperson Charles Baker Strahan, also dishes on her hair philosphy:”I try different looks and I’m happy that I can achieve them and not look like a clown,” she said. Our prediction? “The Blair” becomes as big as “The Serena!
