At first glance, Hailee Steinfeld‘s lipstick from last night’s CFDA Awards may look like a cross between tangerine and coral, but it’s actually a closer match to the persimmon fruit. “It’s more playful, fun, and less formal than the classic red,” Steinfeld’s makeup artist Nick Barose told us. “To complement her Suno dress, I used my favorite summer color, persimmon for her lips.” Barose picked Chanel‘s Rouge Allure Lipstick in Excentrique on the star, and by coincidence, Steinfeld’s hue also matched the red carpet’s color palette. “I swear I didn’t get the memo—great minds just think alike!” Barose joked. We loved Rose Byrne‘s delicate Emilio Pucci dress from the Los Angeles premiere of The Internship—so much that we named her our Look of the Day—and especially how her soft metallic shadow and smoky eyeliner gave the ensemble a sexy edge. “Rose’s dress was so sophisticated yet sweet, so I wanted the makeup to be a little bit on the tougher side,” said her makeup artist Monika Blunder. “My inspiration was a Kate Moss look, a rimmed black eye to create a smudgy, smoldering effect.” Here’s how she created it:

1. BRONZE SHADOW
Blunder used the Chanel Quadra palette in Premier Regard ($59; chanel.com). She swept the bronze shade all over the star’s lids, then blended the dark black shadow onto the outer corners of Byrne’s eyes.

2. ADD SOME LINER
Of course, no Kate Moss look is complete without the model’s trademark liner, so Blunder defined Byrne’s upper and lower lash lines using Chanel’s Waterproof Eyeliner in Black Shimmer ($30 at chanel.com).

3. THE FINISHING TOUCH
She then finished with a generous amount of Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir ($30 each; chanel.com).

Kristen Stewart chose a fun, printed ensemble by Osman for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards this weekend, and her manicurist Ashlie Johnson played off of the deep tones of the look to inspire Stewart’s metallic eggplant nails. “Her outfit was this gorgeous purple-blue that looks different depending on the light and angle, just like the nail color,” said Johnson, who chose Chanel’s Le Vernis in Taboo ($27 at chanel.com), a gorgeous new violet shade that has a shimmer of red. And Johnson also offered a tip to prevent any manicure mishaps—like last-minute smudges. “Apply a thin layer of cuticle oil on top of the color,” advised Johnson, who has also painted the famous fingers of Naomi Watts and Rooney Mara. “If you bump one of your nails on the way out, it won’t dent the polish.” Great tip!
