Another Reason for a Summer EuroTrip: The Chanel No. 5 Exhibit in Paris

May 1, 2013 @ 5:15 pm

Chanel is giving us yet another reason to put Paris on the top of our summer travel list! This year marks the 92nd birthday of the iconic Chanel No. 5 scent that has been worn and loved by so many women—Marilyn Monroe among them—and in celebration, the label is taking a retrospective look at the perfume’s story with a new exhibition titled No. 5 Culture Chanel at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris. The exhibit will be open Sunday, May 5 through June 5, and will tell the scent’s story through photographs, books, and numerous objects that served as inspiration for designer Coco Chanel as well as works of art created by Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, and Salvador Dali that were inspired by the fragrance. Now that’s one beautiful history lesson! Head over to 5-culture.chanel.com to preview the exhibit from your screen. Plus, shop the timeless fragrance for $120 at chanel.com.

How to Look Like Gwyneth Paltrow for $30

Apr 27, 2013 @ 2:00 pm

When we weren’t looking at Gwyneth Paltrow‘s see-through ensemble at the Iron Man 3 premiere, we couldn’t help but notice the glowing makeup and subtle blush lip gloss the world’s most beautiful woman had chosen to complete her look. The color amped up the natural tone of her lips and gave off a shiny finish. “My inspiration for Gwyneth’s look was the Earth,” said her makeup artist Angela Levin. “She reminds me of the things I love about our world—she’s an inspiration to women and people.” To keep in line with the organic feel of Paltrow’s makeup, Levin opted for Chanel’s Glossimer in Rose Sauvage. The sheer petal hue is part of the label’s new summer lineup, and looks gorgeous layered over natural lips and vivid shades alike. Find the product for $30 at chanel.com.

Get Kristen Stewart’s Pretty Purple Manicure: The Exact Color She Wore to the Kids’ Choice Awards

Mar 25, 2013 @ 12:40 pm

Kristen Stewart chose a fun, printed ensemble by Osman for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards this weekend, and her manicurist Ashlie Johnson played off of the deep tones of the look to inspire Stewart’s metallic eggplant nails. “Her outfit was this gorgeous purple-blue that looks different depending on the light and angle, just like the nail color,” said Johnson, who chose Chanel’s Le Vernis in Taboo ($27 at chanel.com), a gorgeous new violet shade that has a shimmer of red. And Johnson also offered a tip to prevent any manicure mishaps—like last-minute smudges. “Apply a thin layer of cuticle oil on top of the color,” advised Johnson, who has also painted the famous fingers of Naomi Watts and Rooney Mara. “If you bump one of your nails on the way out, it won’t dent the polish.” Great tip!

Runway Looks We Love: Chanel

Mar 5, 2013 @ 5:59 pm

The world revolves around Chanel, or at least it did today, when Karl Lagerfeld dropped a globe into the set at the Grand Palais runway for his latest show for Paris Fashion Week. (The globe even illuminated with the locations of the label’s boutiques.) The clothing also served as a reminder of Chanel’s dominance: Like the globe’s night sky, the designs were dark, brooding, and sprinkled with celestial sparkle. Much of the clothing had its place in the evening hours, including sheer layered dresses and an asymmetric gown that captured the relaxed elegance that makes Lagerfeld king of the fashion world. Anne Hathaway’s Busy (and Chic) Awards Season Red Carpet Run

Anne Hathaway is now an Oscar-winning actress. She wore Prada (left) when she took home the golden statue for Best Supporting Actress for her tear-jerking portrayal of Fantine in Les Miserables, and she took one very long, well-dressed road to get to that Oscars stage. At the annual nominees luncheon before the big day, she still didn’t know what she would wear. “I need to get on that, don’t I?” she told reporters. “I definitely have some ideas, some cool options, but no specific plans yet, no preparation.” Whether she was wearing (L to R) Gucci at the Costume Designers Guild Awards, Chanel Couture at the Golden Globes, or runway-fresh Giambattista Valli at the SAG Awards, Hathaway always put her best foot forward—and she only repeated designers twice.
