Go Behind the Scenes at Kate Hudson’s Latest Almay Shoot

Jun 17, 2013 @ 4:38 pm

Kate Hudson‘s complexion never ceases to look flawless, and for her latest Almay campaign, the star got her glow on to show off the effects of the brand’s new multi-tasking CC cream ($9; almay.com). “To have to apply sunscreen and then apply makeup or foundation over it can be costly and a bit of a hassle,” Hudson said. “The Almay CC Cream allows you to have both in one, and it can protect your skin while you’re off at the kids’ soccer games, or playing volleyball at the beach.” We got an exclusive look at her upcoming TV spot, in which Kate continues to be her bubbly, fun-loving self. “It’s more real life, and you’re kind of getting an intimate moment with the real Kate — not just the Almay ambassador,” director Lisa Cholodenko said. Click the photo to take an trip on the set, and scroll down to see a behind-the-scenes clip!

In Stores Today: Alber Elbaz’s Collection for Lancôme

Jun 15, 2013 @ 10:00 am

Lanvin‘s Alber Elbaz announced earlier in the year that he was collaborating with Lancôme on a makeup line, and after much anticipation, the collection hit the brand’s counters nationwide today. And the products are eye-catching, to say the least! The designer decked out Lancôme’s iconic mascaras ($29 each), shadow palettes ($51 each) and a set of fluttery faux lashes ($35) in fashion-forward sketches. “The real theme running through the collection is eyes,” Elbaz said in a statement. “The bottles are so fabulously rounded, that they were my inspiration. I wanted to create rounded shapes with a hint of humor.” Mission accomplished! Find Elbaz’s collection in stores and at lancome-usa.com today.

Starting in July, the beauty megastore will roll out a complete color collection inspired by everyone’s favorite flame-haired mermaid. Just like the previous Cindrella and Princess Jasmine collaborations, The Little Mermaid‘s lineup will include fragrance, shadow palettes, nail polishes, lipglosses, and a compact mirror that fits in among Ariel’s gadgets and gizmos. Plus, Sephora pulled actual colors used in the film to create the eye shadow palettes (which means you can work Ursula’s purple off-screen). Found It! Jaime King’s Vegan Peachy Pink Lipstick

Jun 10, 2013 @ 8:30 am

Ever since Jaime King announced her pregnancy via Twitter back in May, the actress has become conscious of removing harmful chemicals from her beauty routine. “I’ve been trying to avoid wearing any makeup unless I absolutely have to,” the Hart of Dixie star told InStyle.com at the the Vidal Sassoon “Show Your Genius” contest in New York City. But when she does apply makeup, she reaches for vegan cosmetic line, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, the company that created the peachy pink long-wearing lip gloss she wore here. “I’m not trying to go hippy-dippy—we still need some fashion,” she added. Score her shade, named Interlace, for $18 at occmakeup.com.

Wow Moment: Vidal Sassoon’s Iconic Bob Turns 50 This Year

Jun 6, 2013 @ 9:30 am

We can hardly believe it—Vidal Sassoon‘s infamous bob turns 50 this year! (Now doesn’t that make you feel old?) The style, once donned by Mia Farrow and Nancy Kwan (shown left), is still relevant in any of its variations—asymmetrical, A-Line, fringe, etc.—something we knew but was proved even further when we saw it faux-style on Hart of Dixie actress Jaime King when she helped launch the Vidal Sassoon Pro Series “Show Your  Genius” contest in New York this week. “It is so chic,” King told us of the look. “It’s one of the most iconic things in the history of hair!” Celebrity stylist Ben Skervin helped create the style for King, which he calls “a great way to experiment” with the style. “When Vidal originally designed [the bob], it was to free women, to make their life simple, and women today still want that freedom,” Skervin said. “It’s a style that suits everybody. It works any shape and any hair type. The basis of the Sassoon idea is this amazing haircut that you can just wash, wear, and go.” And it’s still going—the hair brand is offering a prize of $1,000 if you submit your best hairstyle on its Facebook page for the “Show Your Genius” contest. (Click here to check it out and submit your look.) So, here’s a big happy birthday, bob—to another 50 years!

Found It! Hailee Steinfeld’s Persimmon Lipstick From the CFDA Awards

Jun 4, 2013 @ 12:31 pm

At first glance, Hailee Steinfeld‘s lipstick from last night’s CFDA Awards may look like a cross between tangerine and coral, but it’s actually a closer match to the persimmon fruit. “It’s more playful, fun, and less formal than the classic red,” Steinfeld’s makeup artist Nick Barose told us. “To complement her Suno dress, I used my favorite summer color, persimmon for her lips.” Barose picked Chanel‘s Rouge Allure Lipstick in Excentrique on the star, and by coincidence, Steinfeld’s hue also matched the red carpet’s color palette. “I swear I didn’t get the memo—great minds just think alike!” Barose joked. He applied the color straight from the tube, then cleaned up around the edges using a cotton swab. Pick up a tube for $34 at chanel.com.
