Trina Turk Is Working on Barbie’s Dreamhouse Pool

Feb 11, 2013 @ 4:08 pm

Barbie just put her Malibu dream house on the market to the tune of $25 million, and she’s searching for some inspiration on her quest for a new place to live—and she’s getting a little help from designer Trina Turk. ”We’re designing the outdoor pool area for Barbie’s next dream house,” Turk told InStyle.com during her New York Fashion Week fall 2013 presentation. “That’s our next project!” And what a project it is: the “8,500 square foot home” is bright pink (no surprise there!), so we can’t wait to see what print lover Trina does to re-imagine the space. Stay tuned!

The Blonds Auction Off One-of-a-Kind Pink Barbie for MAC AIDS Fund!

Sep 12, 2012 @ 12:30 pm

The real star at The Blonds runway show last night in New York was the new Barbie the glamorous designers created (their second!) to support the MAC AIDS Fund. The all-pink doll, which is covered in tiny Swarovski crystals, is being auctioned off on charitybuzz.com through September 25. “She is special because she’s completely covered in Swarovski crystals,” designer David Blond told InStyle.com at the show. “And her shoes have these tiny, tiny crystals pavéd all over them.” Why did the platinum designers decide to collaborate with Mattel on the doll, who also (naturally) comes outfitted with a bright pink fur coat? “Working with Barbie seemed like the perfect partnership because she says, ‘You can be anything you want to be,” David said. David’s design partner Phillipe explained a bit more about the process of dressing the ultimate doll: “She borrowed my heels and my corset and my coat, and she’s looking dazzling as ever.” We agree! Click here to check out the auction.

We’re both avid Barbie collectors and she’s the ultimate client!” The doll is available for pre-order starting today for $125 on BarbieCollector.com.

Chris Benz on Dressing Barbie for Her 2012 Presidential Campaign

Apr 6, 2012 @ 10:30 am

Barbie is running for president for the fifth time, and she enlisted the help of designer pal Chris Benz to make sure she looks her best on the campaign trail. ”We had designed a dress for Michelle Obama in this print, and I thought what a great complement to that moment in time to do the same print for Barbie but in pink,” Benz told InStyle.com of the doll’s suit. ”We added red, white, and blue ribbon and made it fun and flirty.” Fun fact: Barbie’s magnetic pink wedges aren’t just stylish, they also enable her to stand up on her own, a first for the icon. “It is a great metaphor for a presidential campaign,” Benz said. With an outfit this cute, we have a feeling she’s going all the way to the Pink House! Pre-order “I Can Be President” Barbie for $14 at mattelshop.com.
