Rihanna has chopped her locks! Never one to shy away from a hair risk, the singer took to Instagram over the weekend to reveal her shorter cut with layered fringe. “Rihanna wanted something different, edgy, and fun, but simple at the same time,” Motions Celebrity Stylist Ursula Stephen told InStyle.com exclusively. “We don’t like neat or perfect hair — that balance of perfectly-imperfect has always been our thing.” Stephen has worked with the star for years, and duo has experimented with almost every style from a chic pixie to lengthy red strands. If Rihanna has you inspired to make a similar change, Stephen recommends paying extra attention to the little details. “The ends should be bumped tightly using a curling iron,” she added.
Camilla Belle has been switching up her look a lot lately — she got a bob in June — but her latest move? Blunt bangs! The actress debuted her new fringe at the “A Quest for Beauty: The Art of Van Cleef & Arpels” exhibit opening in Los Angeles over the weekend and we couldn’t help but do a double-take — she is almost unrecognizable. Wearing an embroidered Oscar de la Renta dress and Van Cleef & Arpels jewels, she paired her new hair with dramatic smoky eyes. Belle last rocked a similar look in 2008 when she had eye-skimming bangs, but much longer locks. Do you like her bold look? Tell us in the comments below!

Heidi Klum has revisited her brow-skimming fringe. Klum recently stepped out with new blunt bangs, and while we haven’t seen that style on her since 2009, the supermodel is always open to changing up her hair — as evidenced by the pink highlights she wore last year. “Because I get photographed a lot, I get bored with looking the same way, so I love to try new styles,” she told InStyle.com previously. “When my bangs grow out, it’s also really cool because you can push them to the side and create a completely different look.” We’re convinced that there isn’t a style that Klum can’t pull off, but she doesn’t get attached to any one in particular. “Sometimes I want something different, and hair always grows back,” she added. That’s the spirit! We want to know: do you like her hair with or without bangs? Tell us in the comments.

Ever since we added Katie Holmes‘ fringed bob to our Hollywood Makeover Tool in 2008, the style has reigned supreme as one of the the top try-ons. The star’s graphic cut has been sampled by over 54,000 people this year alone! That’s why when we spoke to Holmes at the New York City launch of Alterna’s Scented Dry Shampoos, we just had to ask her why she went for the style, and the inspiration behind her look. “I never had a bob before, and I was a new mom at the time, and I was tired of dealing with long hair — I just wanted something easier,” she told InStyle.com exclusively. “The style was inspired by French fashion, and French women.” These days, Holmes likes to wear her layers long, keeping her strands healthy by using equal parts of Alterna’s CC Cream and Dry Shampoo ($25 and $22; sephora.com) “I love putting in the CC Cream right out of the shower, and when I feel like sleeping in, I’ll use the dry shampoo and do multiple hair flips,” she added.

Confession time: Hailee Steinfeld‘s long, shiny strands never fail to give us hair envy, and her new bangs definitely have us considering cutting a set of our own! Earlier this week at the Young Hollywood Party in Los Angeles, the star showed off her wispy fringe, which hit right below the brow. The longer length allows the style to be worn in a variety of ways, and they even minimize the awkward growing-out period — once the bangs pass her eyes, they’ll blend seamlessly into the rest of Steinfeld’s layers. When it comes to creative hair changes, Alicia Keys is on fire with edgy new ideas — and her latest style definitely serves as proof. In addition to her stellar vocals, the shorter cut and brow-skimming fringe she debuted during a taping of Good Morning America in New York City’s Central Park grabbed our attention. Keys last updated her look in December, adding a platinum highlight to her crop, and her penchant for variety has us eager to see the many ways she’ll wear her current style. “I like a little bit of everything. When I was younger, I was strictly told to wear only braids, but now I love it straight,” the singer previously told InStyle on her hair choices. “I love it curly. I love it partially braided and combed to the back. I really love when it covers my eyes a little bit — then there’s a little mystery.” Do you like her new look? Vote in our poll below to tell us.

Carly Rae Jepsen is the hero of the blunt bang look, which is why we caught up with her hairstylist Sara Meddick of the Nelson J Salon in Beverly Hills — the only person Jepsen trusts with her fringe — for the inside scoop. “Although Carly Rae’s bangs are on the heavy side, she likes the ends to have texture so they appear piece-y and have a slight curve on the sides of her face,” said Meddick. “She likes to have them fall right below the eyebrow.” Her styling secret? “The best way is to finger dry them—avoiding using a round brush or a flat iron.” Rather, the stylist uses the salon’s Nelson J hair products, available at nelsonjhaircare.com. Move over, ombre — celebrities are working bangs and extreme side-cuts this summer! Earlier this week, Jessica Alba and January Jones both stepped out with wispy fringe. The longer length gives both stars room for versatility; the ends can be curled underneath for a blunt look, and they look just as chic when pushed to the side. Jones also switched up her trademark Mad Men bob by cutting her blonde strands into a style that hit just above her chin. On the edgier end of the spectrum, Rosario Dawson and Pink both debuted partially-shaved hairstyles, similar to the shorn look made popular by Rihanna. Pink is no stranger to short, punk rock styles, but the extreme cut is a first for Dawson! We want to know: Which of the hair trends are you more likely to wear? Tell us in the comments!
