Sienna Miller Got Bangs for the First Time in 3 Years!

Apr 18, 2013 @ 1:00 pm

They’re back! After a three-year hiatus, Sienna Miller has decided to revisit her bangs, showing off her new brow-skimming fringe at the Tribeca Ball kicking off the Tribeca Film Festival this week. We haven’t seen this side of the star since 2010, and although she has famously sported her natural blonde hue for years, she’s no stranger to the occasional hair risk. Miller has been brunette, red, and even chopped 10 inches off her lengthy strands to play Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl. ”I’m really not too attached to my hair,” she told InStyle previously. “I never like to look too done or polished.” Do you like her bangs? Tell us!

Tips for When You Fall Out of Love with Your Bangs, Like Michelle Obama

Apr 10, 2013 @ 5:00 pm

Michelle Obama might be bidding her bangs goodbye! The First Lady kicked off the new year by adding fringe to her trademark bob, but now, she’s working on growing them out. “The bangs are a day-by-day proposition,” she told ET. “They’re starting to grow out, getting a little irritating, but it’s okay!” We’re fans of Obama’s current side-swept look, but we can certainly sympathize with that awkward in-between phase. That’s why asked hair pros Heath Grout and Harry Josh for their bang-maintenance tips. Read their thoughts below!

IF YOU WANT TO GROW YOUR BANGS
“Growing out your bangs takes patience!” said TIGI’s U.S. Creative Director Heath Grout, who recommends starting with a side-swept style like Obama’s. “Remember, you must blow-dry the root in the direction you want your bangs to go,” he added. “After a couple of months, go to your stylist to trim your bangs using a deep parallel point technique. This will encourage the fringe to sweep out of the way as it grows longer and heavier.”

IF YOU WANT TO TRIM YOUR BANGS
Many salons offer complimentary bang trims, but if you’re taking matters into your own hands, start by blow-drying your fringe completely straight with a paddle brush. “You need to see the direction of the strands, from root to brow,” said Rose Byrne‘s mane man Harry Josh. Then, comb your bangs straight down, divide in half, and work with one portion at a time. Snip upward into the tips until they’re wispy. “Pecking at the ends first is easier than cutting straight across,” he added. Once the tips are thinned out, you can taper them into a straight line until you reach your desired length.

Layered Bangs: 6 Celebrity Looks That Will Inspire You

Mar 18, 2013 @ 10:30 am
Bangs - Taylor Swift - Michelle Obama - Zooey DeschanelGiampaol Sgura; WireImage (2)

Talk about fringe benefits! While stars like Taylor Swift and Zooey Deschanel have made heavy bangs a part of their signature hairstyles, Michelle Obama and Kim Kardashian have hopped on the trend, too, by incorporating the brow-skimming addition to each of their ‘dos. Their trick: Unexpected frizz is the sworn enemy of layered bangs, so to lock out the elements, apply an anti-frizz cream onto damp strands, then blow-dry using a round brush to work the product into hair. Plus, if you haven’t tried the look yet but are considering it, we have even more celebrity bangs in our Hollywood Makeover Tool, so you can see yourself in bangs before heading to the salon. Get celebrity bang inspiration by clicking through our gallery now.

Sundance Hairstyle We Love: Felicity Jones’s Effortless Down ‘Do

Jan 21, 2013 @ 4:47 pm

Felicity Jones wore a simple down ‘do to make her rounds at the Sundance Film Festival to promote her new film Breathe In, thanks to the help of celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis. “Felicity has an ease to her style that’s very timeless and beautiful,” Francis told InStyle.com. “I thought her hair should be soft, full of body, and have that no fuss Sundance texture.” To create the look, he used a combination of Phytovolume Actif Spray ($28 at sephora.com) at the roots, with a small dollop of Rene Furterer Vegetal Mousse ($23 at beauty.com) on the mid-shaft and ends when hair was damp. He then dried her bangs using a 1/4″ Boars Head Round Brush, and teased the strands lightly to add subtle height. For the finishing touch, he added Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($39 at oribe.com) at the roots. “This gives movement from underneath the hair for lasting movement,” he said. Easy and gorgeous!

Kim Kardashian Debuts Bangs — Again!

Jan 15, 2013 @ 11:06 am

It’s back to bangs for Kim Kardashian! The mother-to-be took the style on a test drive a few times last year — she frequently veered between wearing long layers and clip-on fringe – but made the commitment to a more permanent version yesterday. “I cut my bangs for real!” Kardashian wrote on her blog. Although not as blunt as the faux styles she previously wore, we think Kim’s side-swept version suits her. Do you like her new look? Tell us in the comments!
