Trend We Love: Digital Fashion Shows Like Rachel Roy and Pierre Balmain

Feb 21, 2013 @ 10:56 am

If you think you love Fashion Week livestreaming, check out the latest trend: digital fashion shows! Designers like Rachel Roy, Pierre Balmain, and Peter Som decided to take ‘streaming one step further, ditching an audience-filled show altogether in favor of a taped runway you could only see on your computer screen. “A digital show allowed me to tell the story of my fall collection in a new way and share that with a larger audience,” Roy told InStyle.com, adding that she was able to share more behind-the-scenes looks through social media with the digital format. “I wanted it to be very inclusive and create experiences that people who love fashion can engage with.” Get in on the digital fashion show action: Watch Rachel Roy’s online-only runway show above!

Your Favorite Look on Pinterest This Week: Gwen Stefani

Nov 24, 2012 @ 9:00 am

Onstage and off, Gwen Stefani rocks. Case in point: Her ultra-glam American Music Awards ensemble featuring an embroidered Balmain blazer, leather leggings, and, of course, signature scarlet lips. We crowned it the day’s best style and you agreed by making it this week’s most popular pin. Vote for her dramatic separates or any of the Look of the Day picks, then let us know what else you’re obsessing over at pinterest.com/instylemag by repinning, liking, or commenting on any of our 66 stylish boards—or by clicking the link below.

This week we loved all kinds of looks for our Look of the Day top picks, from jumpsuits (Diane Kruger in Jason Wu) to leather leggings topped off with embroidered jackets (Gwen Stefani in Balmain) to a tunic-and-trouser look (Jessica Biel in Oscar de la Renta). Of course, a great gown always gets us to do a double take (like Katy Perry‘s floral Dolce & Gabbana design) as well as a solid LBD (Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior). So, you tell us: Which is your favorite of the week? Vote in the poll below!  More

The Safety Pin Dress Returns on Kate Moss: Which Is Your Favorite?

Aug 14, 2012 @ 1:15 pm
Kate Moss Safety Pin Dress LondonDave Benett/Hulton Archive/Getty; Peter Brooker/Rex USA; WENN.com

Supermodel Kate Moss stepped out in London last night—not long after her fabulous showing at the Olympic Closing Ceremony—wearing a Moschino Cheap & Chic LBD covered in gold safety pins. This reminded us (obviously) of Elizabeth Hurley’s black silk crepe Versace dress, which made the then 29-year-old world famous overnight. (The 1994 dress is still unforgettable almost two decades later, deemed “instantly inseparable, incredible, combustible, derisible, and globally inescapable” by InStyle fashion director Hal Rubenstein.) Before Moss, Twilight Saga star Kristen Stewart also resurrected the Power of Safety Pins look when she donned a red Balmain mini at the MTV Movie Awards last year. So, which dress is your favorite? Vote in the poll below!  More

Watch: Madonna’s New Video “Turn Up the Radio”

Jul 17, 2012 @ 5:30 pm

Madonna just released a new music video! “Turn Up the Radio” follows the super-fit pop star (she’s 53) as she goes on a joyride through the streets of Florence, Italy, a video she filmed during her current worldwide tour celebrating her latest album, MDNA. The theme follows the lyrics of the song, which include: ”I just wanna get in my car/I wanna go fast and I gotta go far/Don’t ask me to explain how I feel/‘Cause I don’t want to say where I’m going.” Of course, what’s a Madonna video without some hot, half-naked men, and she picks up a bunch of those along the way. She only wears one outfit through the five-minute piece, a moto jacket over a low-cut crop top, short leather bootie shorts by Balmain, her signature fishnets, black stilettos, and chain-wrapped fingerless gloves, which she complements with a headband-wrapped bouffant down-do and cat-eye sunnies. It’s Madonna, tried and true. Watch the entire video above—and turn up the volume while you’re at it. She’d appreciate it.

Kristen Stewart’s Balmain Dress: Runway to Reality

Jun 19, 2012 @ 2:00 pm

For the down-under premiere of Snow White and the Huntsman in Sydney, Australia, leading star Kristen Stewart chose an ornate two-piece look straight off the fall 2012 Balmain runway. Look closely, and you’ll notice how the actress styled the rhinestone and pearl-covered, embroidered design a little different than her model counterpart, ditching the belt and ankle booties for a subtle peek at her midriff and sparkly stilettos by Christian Louboutin. Tell us: Do you like her runway to reality update?
