Why Salma Hayek Celebrates International Women’s Day

Mar 8, 2013 @ 12:45 pm

In honor of International Women’s DayAvon Ambassador Salma Hayek helped recognize campaigns that have spoken out against women’s violence around the world at the 2nd Annual Avon Communications Awards, held at the United Nations in New York City. Hayek is also raising awareness for the cause by wearing Avon’s new Empowerment Charm Necklace—a $5 piece available at avon.com—and all profits go to support Avon’s domestic abuse awareness programs. “It has an infinity symbol in it to remind you of the infinite potential you have as a woman,” the actress told InStyle.com. “When you live a life free of violence, and even if there is violence in your life, you have to remember that you have infinite potential.”

Salma Hayek’s New Favorite Accessory: A $5 Necklace That Supports Domestic Abuse Awareness Programs

Mar 7, 2013 @ 2:40 pm

Salma Hayek teamed up with Avon almost 10 years ago to speak out against domestic abuse—and this year, this is the necklace that’s helping her spread the word. The piece is Avon’s latest Empowerment Charm Necklace, which only costs $5 and comes with a resource pamphlet. “This necklace works two ways,” the actress told InStyle.com (while wearing the charm) before presenting the 2nd Avon Global Communication Awards at the United Nations this afternoon, which honored campaigns that have spoken out against women’s violence around the world and served as an early celebration of tomorrow’s International Women’s Day. “By buying it or wearing it, you help the cause, but it also has the infinity symbol on [the charm] to remind you of the infinite potential you have as a woman—especially when we stick together.” All profits from the necklace support Avon’s awareness programs; visit avon.com to pick up yours today.

Reese Witherspoon Joins Avon’s Believe World Tour

Jun 23, 2011 @ 3:45 pm

Last week, Avon ambassador Reese Witherspoon joined the brand’s Believe World Tour in Moscow and Warsaw, presenting $60,000 grants to the ANNA and Blue Line organizations, respectively. Both organizations are dedicated to preventing violence against women, and the grants were made as part of Avon’s Global Believe Fund, which supports women’s domestic violence shelters and agencies. “I believe we all have a responsibility to raise awareness about the violence that affects one in three women around the world, making it one of the most prevalent, yet underfunded global problems,” Witherspoon told InStyle exclusively. Want to help? Head over to Avon.com and pick up the 2011 Empowerment Bracelet for $10. Proceeds will go toward the Avon Foundation for programs aimed at ending violence against women.

InStyle Hair’s Cover Girl Is… Ashley Greene!

Twilight star Ashley Greene changed her hair many times since first emerging in the Hollywood scene, but as the cover girl of our new special issue InStyle Hair, she insists she’s still low maintenance at heart. “I love having my hair and makeup done, but I’m really just a 15-minute girl, throwing everything on with no fuss,” the 24-year-old actress and mark Brand Ambassador tells us. “That said, I do color and change my hair all the time!” And her willingness to play around with her look helps her when she transforms from mortal to vampire Alice Cullen on the set of Twilight. “The whole process takes about two hours,” Greene says of her otherworldly makeover. “My hair is pretty thick, and we wrap it and put it under a wig. To get it to fit so I don’t like look I have an alien head is a talent in itself. ” The next installment of the franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 opens November 18th. For more of our exclusive interview with Greene, pick up the special issue of InStyle Hair, on newsstands Friday.

Fergie Spills Her Beauty Secrets

Dec 2, 2010 @ 12:40 pm

We talked to Fergie yesterday at the launch of the Avon Voices singer/songwriter competition, where she dished on her must-have beauty products: “When I went from brunet to blond, my hair became drier,” she revealed. “Lately, I’ve been using the Avon Advance Techniques Hair Repair Damage Control line. I leave the conditioner in for at least five minutes in the shower to take care of my ends and get the texture back. It’s important for me to have healthy hair. It’s a big thing for me.” As for skincare and makeup, “I hydrate, hydrate, hydrate,” the Duchess told us. She uses eye cream and mineral makeup, and washes her face very night.

MORE! Fergie, who’s judging Avon Voices, also partners with the brand on her Unspoken fragrance. Get details on the competition now!
