Congratulations are in order for Ashlee Simpson. The star announced her engagement to actor Evan Ross via Twitter this week, and we got the scoop on her unique engagement ring straight from the designer. The 5-carat marquise-cut diamond, set in platinum and gold, and accented with small rubies and 140 small white diamonds, is the work of jeweler-to-the-stars Neil Lane (he’s the man behind some of the most jaw-dropping sparklers in Hollywood, and is responsible for many of the dazzling diamond creations the stars wear on the red carpet). ”A Vintage inspiration with a Contemporary feel using calibrated cut rubies gave that vibrant Art Deco look,” Lane told InStyle.com exclusively. “The navette shape evoked the romance [of the] Edwardian Era.” Based on her ever-evolving style, we’re looking forward to seeing what she wears down the aisle.
While Jessica and Ashlee Simpson are the co-creative directors for the Jessica Simpson Girls collection, Jessica enlisted her little sis for another job: Star of the new Jessica Simpson women’s campaign, which Ashlee launched yesterday in New York City. “The dresses are amazing,” Ashlee told InStyle.com on the seventh-floor open patio of the Thompson LES Hotel. She then shared the two boho-looks she’s obsessed with: the turquoise number she wore that evening (shown) and a maroon one she was shot in for the campaign. Off in the patio’s center, guests perused the new pieces while sipping champagne and nibbling on Blue Ribbon mini burgers, pork sliders, veggie crostinis and wasabi chicken wings. Each took one piece home to remind them of an evening as jovial as the hostess herself. For Simpson, her wish list was a little more extensive. “You better give me the whole thing!” Find the Jessica Simpson collection at all major retailers now. Cute alert! Not even the impending arrival of Hurricane Sandy could keep Anne Hathaway and new husband Adam Shulman from taking a stroll around Brooklyn, with pupster Esmerelda in tow. On the opposite coast, Ashlee Simpson stepped out with her adorably pudgy French bulldog, Alabama, in Los Angeles. Talk about transformations. Ashlee Simpson has tried on just about every hair color, from black to blond-tipped brown to her current flaxen bob. To celebrate her 28th birthday, have a look at how she grew from a child actor (remember 7th Heaven?) into a hit recording artist and fixture on the red carpet. See her colorful transformation in the gallery below.
Ashlee Simpson’s platinum bob is one of the most tried-on hairstyles in our Hollywood Makeover Tool, and good news for fans of the look—it’s not going anywhere. “I don’t miss the crazy too-long hair,” she told InStyle.com at the Samsung Galaxy SIII launch in New York in July. “[My son] Bronx just told me the other day, ‘Mom, please don’t grow it out like Rapunzel.’” The appeal of this style is its low-maintenance: “I like having short hair because I don’t blow-dry my hair,” she said. “There are no flat irons involved. I get out of the shower and I go. So it’s like heaven. There’s Bumble and Bumble spray and that’s it.” The spray she turns to is Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Spray; find it for $24 at bumbleandbumble.com.

Jessica Simpson is getting some help stocking baby Maxwell’s closet thanks to sister Ashlee’s creative hand-me-down skills. “I have some really cute vintage shirts that we remake for [Maxwell] to be cute little dresses,” Ashlee told InStyle.com at the New York launch of the Samsung Galaxy SIII phone. “We have some good ones from when Bronx was really little that are good material. That’s what I love for Bronx, but he can never wear them again, so I make cute little shirts with them.” So is she trying to give Jessica’s girly girl a taste of her and Bronx’s (shown) rocker chic? “Exactly,” Ashlee added. “But she’s really too small for that.” So cute!
