Did You Know That Simon Doonan Is Writing a New Book? Here Are the Details!

Mar 28, 2013 @ 10:45 am

Simon Doonan, the creative ambassador for Barneys New York, is one of fashion’s most outspoken (and hilarious) voices. (Doonan is so funny that Alexander Wang even chose him to star in his most recent, very tongue-in-cheek ad campaign.) He has put his quick wit to the white page in the form of several books, like Gay Men Don’t Get Fat, and he recently told InStyle.com that his next book, The Asylum, will be released this September. “I’ve been privileged to be in fashion from when it was a tiny little thing that was just a prerogative of rich women to when it became the insane, global obsession that it is today,” Doonan told InStyle.com at Barneys’ Celebration of 60 Years of Chloé. “The book has humorous anecdotes, hopefully, from my 40 years in fashion. It became bigger than anyone could have ever predicted. You don’t know how little it was! I mean, it was a very minor thing. Fashion Week was like a trade show.” How things have changed—keep an eye on penguingroup.com to find out more about The Asylum, and pick up a copy when it comes out September 3.

The Week in Parties: Zoe Kravitz and Mom Lisa Bonet Celebrate with Swarovski, and More!

Mar 22, 2013 @ 3:15 pm

Zoë Kravitz (in Alexander Wang) celebrated the launch of her limited-edition collaboration with Swarovski Crystallized last night on the roof of New York’s Gramercy Park Hotel. The 23-year-old actress was joined by mom Lisa Bonet, and the two partied ’til the early morning hours in celebration of the sparkling nine-piece jewelry line, which incorporates earthy elements in addition to Swarovski’s trademark crystals. Kravitz’s birthstones, turquoise and tanzanite, are featured prominently in the bracelets, earrings, rings, and necklaces, which were modeled by the two ladies at the event. Shop the collection in Swarovski stores in April.

Instagram-Worthy: Alexander Wang’s Debut Collection for Balenciaga at Paris Fashion Week

Feb 28, 2013 @ 11:58 am

Let’s go to Paris, readers! InStyle‘s Fashion Director Cindy Weber Cleary is in the City of Lights for Paris Fashion Week, and she’s giving us updates straight from her front row perch. One show she loved so far: Alexander Wang‘s collection for Balenciaga, the first lineup to come from the New York designer since his appointment to the role in late November. “The DNA of Cristóbal Balenciaga, the house’s founder, was unmistakable—but so was Mr. Wang’s. Urban, chic, sexy,” Weber Cleary says of the black and white looks that hit the runway, including these super sexy stilettos. She added: “Alexander Wang did an outstanding job.” For more updates, straight from the runway, follow at @instylemagazine on Instagram.

Feb 10, 2013 @ 9:52 am

As always, Alexander Wang’s collection included luxe leather accents and must-have accessories. Models stormed the runway wearing winter-chic sweaters, fur coats, and slouchy trousers, some of which were topped off with cozy knit hoods. Sky-high knit-covered wedges added height and glamour to the layered looks, as well as skin-baring asymmetrical pumps. The designer also offered a new take on cold-weather accessories with his fur-covered boxing-style gloves. See our favorite looks in the gallery!

Watch Alexander Wang’s New Video: It Will Make You Laugh!

Jan 30, 2013 @ 2:43 pm

Alexander Wang is known for featuring hip up-and-comers in his ad campaigns—let’s not forget his obsession with Harlem rapper Azealia Banksbut he went in a new direction for his latest clip, which promotes his spring T by Alexander Wang collection. The designer cast MADtv comedienne Bon Qui Qui (played by Anjelah Johnson) as the newest sales associate in his New York flagship store, and also wrangled Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio, Natasha Lyonne, and Barneys New York creative ambassador Simon Doonan to make appearances. Hilarity ensues when the inexperienced Bon Qui Qui tries to fit Ambrosio’s size 9 feet into shoes two sizes too small, and later accuses Doonan of trying to lift one of Wang’s iconic studded purses. Watch the clip above! You deserve a giggle.

Amanda Seyfried Is InStyle’s January Cover Girl!

Dec 11, 2012 @ 9:00 am
Amanda Seyfried InStyle January CoverDusan Reljin

Amanda Seyfried is InStyle’s January cover girl! The actress, who just celebrated her 27th birthday, doesn’t hold back in our interview, doling out her uncensored thoughts on everything from singing and stripping onscreen to the upside of having OCD and dating actors. “I’m just more attracted to actors,” she reveals. “I like their choice to be artists—that’s ballsy. And a guy who has such access to his emotional life is sexy… Maybe I’m so attracted to actors because I’m not ready for the “settled down” thing yet.” In fact, she doesn’t like to settle at all—this is one woman who needs to keep moving. “I have to do lots of things at the same time. It’s an obsessive-compulsive thing,” says Seyfried, who takes Lexapro to control her OCD. (Example: When she’s on the elliptical machine at the gym, she’s also knitting, playing Soduku, and listening to music. “I think OCD is a part of me that protects me. It’s also the part of me that I use in my job, in a positive way.” And her jobs are what most important to her now. With Les Miserables, out Christmas Day, she’ll have live singing scenes (she says director Tom Hooper picked her because she can “be grounded enough to make it believable when she bursts into song”) and with Lovelace, out 2013, she’ll have nude scenes. “It’s not about my body,” she says. “It’s not about me. You’re playing somebody else. You’re not going to believe a love scene if the people are dressed. You’re not going to believe a stripper who has on a bra and underwear the whole time.” For more of our uncensored exclusive interview, flip to page 118 of the January issue—or download it on your iPad, Nook, or Droid tablet—on newsstands Friday, December 14th.
