Disconnect Opens Today Starring Alexander Skarsgard, Paula Patton (and a Cameo by Marc Jacobs)

Apr 12, 2013 @ 10:30 am

Disconnect opens in theaters today, a movie that weaves together multiple storylines—each one focusing on the pitfalls of technology—so you get several plots for the price of one (like Crash or Love Actually). And you’ll see a bunch of familiar faces, too, like Alexander Skarsgard, Jason Bateman, Frank Grillo, Paula Patton, and even a cameo by designer Marc Jacobs. “It’s not an anti-Internet film,” clarified Alexander Skarsgard at the New York premiere of his role as a war veteran struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder. “It’s a film about human beings who are trying to connect.” Meanwhile, Bateman plays a father whose son fall victim to cyber-bullying. “It was hard to get him to be serious, but when he was serious it blew us away,” director Henry-Alex Rubin said. “The crew couldn’t believe the performances he was doing.” Click here to see where Disconnect is playing near you.

Alexander Skarsgard Premieres Disconnect, and More of Last Night’s Parties!

Apr 9, 2013 @ 1:30 pm

Sexy True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard takes on an issue all too familiar to our nation’s war veterans in his new film Disconnect: he plays a man battling post-traumatic stress disorder who turns to online gambling to try to solve his problem. “I don’t want it to sound didactic or preachy because it’s not an anti-Internet film,” Skarsgard told reporters at the film’s New York premiere, which was also attended by Skarsgard’s co-star Andrea Riseborough (in Proenza Schouler). “It’s a film about human beings who are trying to connect.” The movie opens this Friday, April 12. Alexander Skarsgard Takes His Sexy Vampire Stare to Calvin Klein

Feb 5, 2013 @ 4:42 pm

There’s nothing like seeing Alexander Skarsgard move in slow motion while wearing dapper slim-cut suits to brighten up your day! The True Blood actor stars in the new video for Calvin Klein’s collection, named Provocations (watch it above). The Fabien Baron-directed clip hints at some kind of elusive seduction and danger, as it depicts Skarsgard and Finnish model Suvi Koponen in looks from the collection—think lots of tailored black-and-white and fitted denim—rolling down dirt hills and walking entirely too close to explosive bursts of flame. “The characters that you get to dive into are so different,” Skarsgard had told InStyle.com of acting for CK (his first video for the label debuted last September). “You always get to explore a different side of your personality, and I learn a lot about myself that way.” Watch the clip above, and see a longer, 10-minute version at youtube.com/calvinklein.

Alexander Skarsgard on What He Loves about His Sexy Characters

Sep 28, 2012 @ 12:16 pm

Whether Alexander Skarsgard is portraying vampire Eric Northman on True Blood, filming a thriller named Hidden in which he hides in bomb shelters, or perfecting his come-hither look as the face of Calvin Klein’s new men’s fragrance, Encounter, the man oozes sexiness. And he knows it. “That’s what’s fascinating about this job,” the actor told InStyle.com at the New York launch of the fragrance, hosted by CK’s men’s creative director Italo Zucchelli at McKittrick Hotel’s Gallow Green rooftop garden bar. “The characters that you get to dive into are so different. You always get to explore a different side of your personality, and I learn a lot about myself that way.” And what he learned about himself through Calvin Klein is the power an image has to make something sexy—with no words at all. (Something that would come in handy if he lands the part as Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey, which many believe this campaign took inspiration from.) “As an actor you usually have to say something,” he continued, Stella Artois beer in hand (though we were hoping for some True Blood). “But this I had to come up with in my head. And I’m really happy with how it came out.” Take one look at the clip above and you’ll be happy, too! Calvin Klein’s Encounter is in stores now; find it for $72 at macys.com. “I shower in it,” Skarsgard joked.

TIFF 2012: InStyle Toasts to the Cast of What Maisie Knew

Sep 8, 2012 @ 9:20 pm

InStyle hosted the cast of What Maisie Knew for a private dinner to celebrate their new film its official premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. While Julianne Moore and Alexander Skarsgard (in Gucci) brought the star power to the Windsor Arms Hotel where the dinner was held, it was the 7-year-old actress who plays Maisie, Onata Aprile, who stole the spotlight. “She has this raw quality,” Skarsgard said of his pint-size co-star. “She has this emotion, this energy that was just there. I fell in love in like two seconds, and then I was gone—so in love with her.” And like her character, Aprile knows: Both Skarsgard and Moore scooped her into their arms after reuniting for the first time at the dinner. It was adorable overload!

Alexander Skarsgard’s TIFF Fashion Emergency

Sep 8, 2012 @ 10:30 am

What Maisie Knew star Alexander Skarsgard had a problem at the Toronto International Film Festival—he had nothing to wear to his movie’s premiere! Luckily, a last-minute stop to Toronto’s Gucci store provided a luxury solution. “I’ve been shooting a film named Hidden for two months, and when I go on location, I don’t pack a suit,” he told us at the dinner InStyle hosted in honor of the Maisie movie at the Windsor Arms Hotel. “I bring a T-shirt and sweatpants every day. And when you’re working, it’s pretty intense. I don’t have a lot of time outside of shooting. So I had nothing.” He also had nothing that fit. For Hidden, he had to lose 16 pounds from his 203-pound frame to take on the emaciated look his character called for. No wonder he had no clothes! Though, judging from his role on True Blood, that wouldn’t have been such a bad thing, anyway.
