The Heidi braid trend is still going strong! This week, Adele swapped her trademark retro coiff for a braided headband, and earlier this month Beth Behrs, Ashley Madekwe, and Florence Welch also tried out the style. The look is a fun alternative to the standard ponytail as the temperature rises, and is a genius way to mask second-day strands. To create Behrs’ updo at the premiere of Monsters University in Los Angeles, her hairstylist Aviva Perea began by spritzing Oribe’s Foundation Mist ($23; oribe.com) onto damp hair, then blow-dried the star’s strands using her fingers. A few quick twists using a curling iron added extra movement before Perea misted on Dove’s Dry Shampoo ($5; drugstore.com). “It gave her hair amazing texture, and helped the braids stay in place,” she said. Perea wound four plaits on Behrs’ head, placing two on each side of her head by her ears. “I started each braid with a fish tail and ended with a regular braid for extra texture,” she added. Perea anchored the braids just behind the star’s bangs with bobby pins. Click the photo to get more celeb braid inspiration.
In addition to the couture offerings at last night’s Academy Awards, celebrities were lining the carpet in gorgeous, classic manicures. The intricate nail art trend was swapped for tried-and-true elegant shades, and the lacquers worn by Stacy Keibler, Kerry Washington, and Adele were among our favorites. Perhaps as a nod to the night’s festivities, Keibler accented her Naeem Khan gown with Deborah Lippmann’s Glamorous Life ($17; deborahlippmann.com), while Washington and Adele chose timeless nude hues. Washington, who plays Olivia Pope on Scandal, wears a buff-toned lacquer for the show, but appropriately decided to add a touch of shimmer before hitting the red carpet. The Academy Awards were a big night for Adele—in addition to her stellar performance of “Skyfall,” (for which she was backed by a 1,500-lb. curtain made of 100,000 Swarovski crystals) the singer also took home an Oscar for Best Original Song, making her only two awards away from the coveted EGOT status! Of course, Adele never disappoints in the beauty category, and through the course of her memorable night, she showed off two gorgeous hair and makeup looks. We caught up with her hairstylist and makeup artist Michael Ashton, who took us on an exclusive trip backstage to see how the star’s lush lashes and soft curls came together. Click “See the Photos” to get the complete breakdown, with key tips on how you can recreate it at home!
As soon as the red carpet rolled up following the 85th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre, Hollywood’s brightest stars hit the party circuit for the all-night festivities! Adele (in Jenny Packham) was all smiles at the Governors Ball, the official after-party held just five floors up from the Oscars stage, posing with the golden statue she nabbed for Best Original Song for “Skyfall.” (“Watch the dress!,” she kindly told guests who kept stepping on her train.) Across town, two annual soirees continued their must-see appeal: Vanity Fair’s epic annual bash heated up with Jennifer Aniston, who posed with legendary designer Valentino Garavani, and Elton John’s 21st annual viewing party, which included guests like Heidi Klum (in Julien MacDonald), also raised money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. “I love that Elton gets all these people out every year, and he makes a fun night into a very important night,” Klum told InStyle.com. “He’s raised more than $300 million dollars since 1992, and people show up!”

Adele will sing live at the Oscars! Following some speculation leading up to her presence at the Golden Globes last week, the Academy has confirmed that she will indeed grace the stage for a live performance at the 85th Annual Academy Awards. “It’s an honor to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again,” Adele said in a statement. “It’s something I’ve never experienced and probably only ever will once!“ The British singer will belt out the song she penned as the title track for Skyfall, which is also nominated in the Best Original Song category. We can’t wait to hear her sing again—this will be her first live performance since giving birth to her son in October. Tune in to ABC February 24 at 7/6c to see it!
