Feb 23, 2013 @ 2:00 pm

If you’re throwing an Oscars viewing party tomorrow, consider this for your spread: an Academy Awards-inspired cupcake! Our favorite bakeries around the country are just as excited as we are for the biggest red carpet of the year, so they whipped up these Hollywood-inspired treats for the occasion. Magnolia Bakery created a decadent red velvet “Red Carpet Cupcake” (right) with cream cheese frosting dusted in gold ($3.50 each at all locations). Sprinkles Cupcakes thought of the nominees for their star-topped treats (center), also with a red velvet cake ($3.50 at all locations). And national chain Crumbs looked to the man of the night, Oscar himself, for their chocolate-iced “And the winner is…” cupcake (left) with a statuette cookie popped right in its middle ($4.50 at all locations). Delicious—and so on-theme! And they’ll only be in their shops until tomorrow, so get snacking!

Plus, prep some more with the best Oscar gowns ever.

Stylist Cher Coulter on Oscar Dressing: “It’s a No-Brainer!”

Feb 23, 2013 @ 12:00 pm

When it comes to successfully dressing celebrities for the red carpet, Cher Coulter‘s list is almost as long as the Oscars red carpet! (Kate Bosworth, Kirsten Dunst, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley—check!) So with the Academy Awards happening tomorrow, we asked the stylist what she thinks the stars should wear to be sure to wow. “I think the young girls have a responsibility to be more fashionable, otherwise it’s just a sea of mermaids,” she told InStyle.com. “But at the same time if you’re an actress this is your moment to shine.” And when it comes to finding the designer to help you do that, she has a lot of love for one in particular: Valentino, whose latest couture looks are featured above. “Red always looks good on the red carpet—especially Valentino Red,” said Coulter. “The color’s a no-brainer if you want to go classic and you want to stand out.” Bottom line: be fashionable but classic—and don’t avoid color. Good luck ladies!

Charlize Theron’s Pre-Oscars Preparation: “Start With the Heart” at TOMS Shoes

Feb 23, 2013 @ 11:07 am

How is Charlize Theron getting ready to present at Sunday’s Academy Awards? “This is how I’m getting ready, start with the heart,” the actress told InStyle.com during a private dinner at the recently-opened TOMS flagship store in Venice. During the height of Oscars weekend, together with TOMS Shoes founder Blake Mycoskie, the pair celebrated the launch of the third collaboration between the charitable shoe brand (for each pair bought, one is given to a child in need) and the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP), which focuses on keeping African youth safe from HIV/AIDS. “Blake, I’m not ever going to get married, but this is the closest I’m going to get to a marriage that actually works,” Theron joked. “Your team and your long-term commitment to us has been so amazing.” And their collaboration expanded: For the third go-around of the limited-edition footwear (in stores and toms.com next month), they created another women’s shoe, and a matching child pair, too—a natural evolution given that Theron’s son Jackson, loves to wear TOMS and the recently-married Mycoskie is planning to expand his family soon. “I think I have every style of TOMS that my son is wearing, yes, and he has these,” she said of the new style, which features the sun-inspired white and yellow CTAOP logo and the organization’s motto, Reach Out, Think Beyond, and Look Within scrawled inside. Theron credits her team for the design; for her, it’s all about the heart of the issue: “There is nothing that moves me as much as having these crates of shoes show up at schools in the middle of nowhere,” Theron said. “I invite anyone to come and try not to be emotional about it. It really is incredible.”

Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscar 2013 Dress: 5 Things You Can Expect

Jennifer Lawrence hasn’t picked a dress for the Oscars yet, but she’s working on it, and it’s going to be maj-or. Why? Because this year, she teamed up with Rachel Zoe, and already the super stylist has dressed her in a variety of high-fashion pieces this awards season, including Valentino (for last night’s Oscar Nominees bash), Chloe (for yesterday’s nominees luncheon), Dior (for the SAG Awards and Globes, she’s the face of the luxury label), and beyond. So, what does this mean for The Biggest Night of All, the Academy Awards? At yesterday’s Annual Oscars Nominees Luncheon, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the Best Actress nominee gave reporters a few hints…

1. SHE HASN’T PICKED A DRESS, YET.
“I’m going to wear sweat pants. Yeah, I have been thinking about it. We’ve got some sketches together, but nothing decided yet.”

2. COMFORT IS NOT NECESSARY.
“No, last time was comfort. This year, I’m like suck it up, wear a corset.”

3. SHE WANTS A HIGH-FASHION LOOK.
“Yeah, I am going to go for fashion this time. I say that, but that’s the problem with the Oscars, they’re always at the end, where you are just exhausted from dressing up, so I never care. Now, I will. Fashion.”

4. HER GO-TO PREP: FOOD.
“Eating normally calms me down. I remember before the Oscars [in 2011] I was wearing that skin-tight dress, and I ate a Philly cheesesteak and fries, and I was like, ‘This is definitely going to help,’ which it didn’t cause I had to double Spanx it.”

5. HER POSSE HELPS HER STAY CALM.
“Yeah, I normally just have my friends there while I am getting ready, so I am not thinking about it. When you’re quiet and can’t talk, I’m in my head, so it’s fun to have like friends there while you’re getting ready.”

We can’t wait to see what she picks on February 24! In the meantime, see more 2013 nominees in the gallery.

Confirmed: Adele Will Sing at the Oscars!

Jan 23, 2013 @ 10:20 am

Adele will sing live at the Oscars! Following some speculation leading up to her presence at the Golden Globes last week, the Academy has confirmed that she will indeed grace the stage for a live performance at the 85th Annual Academy Awards. “It’s an honor to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again,” Adele said in a statement. “It’s something I’ve never experienced and probably only ever will once!“ The British singer will belt out the song she penned as the title track for Skyfall, which is also nominated in the Best Original Song category. We can’t wait to hear her sing again—this will be her first live performance since giving birth to her son in October. Tune in to ABC February 24 at 7/6c to see it!

The cast of Les Miserables could be performing at this year’s 85th Annual Academy Awards! While details have yet to be confirmed, The Daily Mail reports that the key players are expected to take the stage including Best Supporting Actress nominee Anne Hathaway, Best Actor nominee Hugh Jackman, Samantha Barks, Amanda Seyfried, and InStyle Man of Style Eddie Redmayne. And although it’s always nerve-wracking to perform in front of your peers, the cast has plenty of experience with live singing, since they belted out the iconic tunes live everyday while filming. Catch all the Oscars action on ABC February 24th at 7/6c, and watch to see if the cast will hit the stage—and possibly even take home the trophy for Best Picture.
