Stacy Keibler, Olivia Palermo, and Iman Honored At the 17th Annual ACE Awards In New York City For Their Exceptional Use of AccessoriesNov 5, 2013 @ 4:53 pm
A few of fashion’s best dressed, along with innovative designers, stepped out to celebrate the 17th Annual Accessories Council Excellence (ACE) Awards at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City, an evening recognizing those who have significantly contributed and impacted the world of accessories. The long list of honorees included Stacy Kiebler (for Style Ambassador), Olivia Palermo (for Distinguished Style), Warby Parker (for Retail Innovation), Phillip Lim (for Designer of the Year), and the legendary Iman (for Hall of Fame). “You always get excited [about Hall of Fame] because I mean, wow that’s big,” she said to InStyle.com. “I always believed that accessories are the stars in my closet and the rest of my clothes are supporting guests.” Along with the honorees, A-list presenters were also part of the big night which included actress Joan Collins— who presented jewelry designer Alexis Bittar with Brand of the Year award—and designers Tommy Hilfiger, Rebecca Minkoff, Jason Wu and Naeem Khan. The evening not only celebrated the stars, but the renowned Accessories Council, a non-profit advocacy group supporting accessory designers, and adding to the stylish flair of the evening, singer/songwriter Guordan Banks serenaded guests with a special live performance.
In the spirit of the event dedicated to accessories, we asked the honorees if they follow Coco Chanel’s infamous rule of removing at least one accessory before leaving the house and the stars’ responses? “I do a little double check,”style icon Olivia Palermo said to InStyle.com. “Sometimes I add a little on or add a little off, it depends.” As for Iman, she admitted that not only does she follow the rule, but she even did it for the event! “I totally believe that, I wore bracelets, but I thought it was over kill,” she said.
You could feel the positive energy anywhere you turned in The Plaza in New York City last night, as amfAR’s 4th Annual Inspiration Gala took over the space and filled it with uplifting moments. “I’m here because of the heroic people who have dedicated their lives to finding the cure for AIDS,” Uma Thurman (in Versace) told InStyle.com as she arrived to the event, which raised money and awareness for AIDS research and advocacy projects around the world. “I’m just bringing my love and energy and my prayers to their mission.” Before the gala started, the evening began with a military-themed fashion show made up of looks donated by leading menswear designers, including Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, and Michael Kors. Kenneth Cole, amfAR’s Chair of the Board, happily played along: “I’m wearing fatigues to anticipate anything that could come of tonight—I’m prepared for it,” he joked to InStyle.com.
After the bumping runway beats faded, guests made their way to the ballroom where Thurman got down to business giving out honors while guests bid on silent auction items as they dined. “What’s special about this evening is that we’re honoring them not for their artistic achievements but for their ability to inspire us,” Thurman said of the honorees. Valentino earned the Award for Inspiration, accepted on his behalf by Iman (in Valentino), Alan Cumming took home the Award of Courage, and Jennifer Lopez (in Tom Ford) received the Humanitarian Award. “I’m deeply touched,” Lopez said tearfully. “I’m grateful that I have the opportunity of helping to improve the lives of others even if it’s in a small little way. We all just need to do a little bit and then all of a sudden all these amazing things happen.” The evening concluded with a group sing-a-long to “Call Me Maybe” spearheaded by the hitmaker herself, Carly Rae Jepsen. It’s been a really big day for David Bowie! The rock legend turns 66 today, and in honor of his birthday, he just announced he’ll release his first album in 10 years, The Next Day, on March 12 in the U.S. As a lead-up to the new record—his 27th to date, a follow-up to 2003′s Reality—he also released the first song, “Where Are We Now?,” and an accompanying video. True to the British rocker’s oddball sensibility, the video shows footage from Berlin, as the song tells the story of Bowie’s day-to-day life when he lived in the city for three years in the 1970s. However, rather than appear as himself, Bowie replaced the head of a stuffed animal with his own face, as he watches the Berlin reel behind him. Watch the clip above! And, in honor of his birthday, his supermodel wife Iman answered his question via Twitter: “”Where are we now?” Right here in you arms.. now & forever! Happy Birthday, David

Valentino took over the New York City Ballet last night! The legendary Italian designer lent his decades of couture expertise to the NYCB’s annual fall gala, where he created costumes for all of the principal dancers in four of the five vignette performances, each of which contained a hint of classic Valentino red, from the peekaboo lace to the pointe shoes. (Scroll down to see the photo of him on stage to take a bow.) “You always know when someone has skill, but to see it at work like this, to see the discipline of creating, not just a dress but a costume, my admiration for him has grown ever more so,” said Sarah Jessica Parker (in Valentino Haute Couture), who conceptualized the idea of having the designer collaboration as co-chair of the gala. The entire evening was filled with admiration for the 80-year-old always-tan man, as his celebrity fans like Anne Hathaway, Karolina Kurkova (in Valentino red!), Iman, and more filed in to congratulate him on a job well done (while all wearing Valentino). “They were breathtaking and out of this world and totally him,” Hathaway said of the costumes. The event kicked off the fall season of the New York City Ballet, and raised money for the artistic organization. Bravo! *Throw a rose!* *Throw a rose!*
