Bye-bye bangs, hello long bob! We figured Taylor Swift was up to something when she posted pictures of her seemingly shorter ‘do to Instagram, but we couldn’t tell if it had actually been cut, or a camera trick combined with an aptly-placed Valencia filter. Turns out, it was the real deal — Swift was spotted in Perth, Australia shortly before taking the stage at her concert, rocking shoulder-length layers with choppy side swept bangs. Although heavy fringe was her signature look, she felt that she was overdue for an update. “While in the studio I came to the realization that my bangs are long enough to use as a sleep mask on long flights,” she wrote. “Then I remembered I don’t ever use sleep masks on flights. So really, I just need a haircut.” Change is good, and we think she wears her new look well. Tell us: Do you like Taylor’s cut, or do you miss her trademark style?
Even Barbie and Ken are fans of The Hunger Games! Just in time for holiday gifting, four of Panem’s residents are getting a Barbie makeover, complete with each character’s new Catching Fire ensembles. But this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Jennifer Lawrence in doll form — last April, Barbie created a mini-Katniss Everdeen, clad in her trademark getup and ever-essential bow and arrow kit. This time, Peeta Mellark, Finnick Odair, and Effie Trinket are also getting the mini-me treatment, and true to canon, Effie’s doll is pure glamour. Find the full range at barbiecollector.com, priced at $25 per doll — we think they’d be a perfect holiday gift for both Barbie and Hunger Games enthusiasts alike.
Olivia Wilde never fails to look radiant on and off the red carpet, and while her luminous complexion can be credited in part to the infamous “pregnancy glow,” she takes careful measures to make sure that it doesn’t fade. Her motto? Less is more. “My skincare routine is very simple. I wash it, I moisturize it, and I exfoliate once a week, but when the weather is cold like this, I’ll use a thicker moisturizer, but not much more,” she told reporters at a launch event for Revlon‘s Age Defying Foundation, of which she and Halle Berry are the celebrity faces. “It’s about finding things that work for you, learning how and where to use concealer, and just taking care of your skin. Being pregnant, I learned so much about how you respond to your body. It’s kind of the only time in our lives where we’re conscious of our bodies in a thoughtful way, and we’re kinder to ourselves. We think about things like ‘What am I doing to my skin? What am I eating? How am I working out?”’
But even before she started her journey as a mommy-to-be, Wilde took a minimalist approach in terms of skin products and complexion-perfectors. “I’m not great at remembering all the other creams you can use — eye creams and all that — I keep it pretty low-key,” she added. “No one has a perfect complexion. Makeup certainly helps, but it’s not about slathering on foundation. It’s about finding things that work for you, learning how and where to use concealer, and staying hydrated.” Well said!
Be sure to catch Olivia this Thursday at 8:38 a.m. EST on NBC or goldenglobes.com, where she will be announcing this year’s Golden Globe nominees with Zoe Saldana and Aziz Ansari. “I’m excited! I have to wake up at 3 AM to get ready, but it will be nice to say some of my friends’ names and give them recognition — especially since they’ll probably be sitting and watching like ‘Say my name, say my name!’” she told us. Destiny’s Child would be proud!
You can rent a couture dress or a designer bag, but would you rent hair extensions? The Nelson J Salon in Beverly Hills recently rolled out a hair extension rental program, which allows users to borrow clip-in pieces for seven days, priced at $75. For each purchase, a stylist will apply the extensions and blow out your strands, then you’ll be sent home with a self-addressed stamped envelope to mail the pieces back after your seven days are up. “Spending around $250 to wear extensions for one evening is challenging for many budgets, so I thought a rental service would be a great option,” said the salon’s founder Nelson Chan. “It also allows someone to try more than one look during the course of a few months.” While Julianne Hough recently opted for more-permanent versions from the Nine Zero One salon, it’s nice to know we can get a look similar to hers without as long of a commitment — we’re definitely intrigued! We want to know: Would you try out the service? Tell us by voting in the poll below.
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is airing tonight at 10 PM EST on CBS! Will you be watching? While the sexy smoky eye and chic nude lip created for the show is a perfect complement to the Angels’ avant-garde runway ensembles, we thought it would be equally-sexy in real life — not to mention a great holiday party makeup choice. That’s why we asked Victoria’s Secret makeup artist Colleen Creighton, equipped with the exact same products she used on the models, to demonstrate the look on our Senior Fashion News Editor Kim Peiffer, with easy-to-follow instructions for perfecting the effect.
Kim’s dewy complexion was created with the VS Makeup Tinted Moisturizer ($15; victoriassecret.com), and a sweep of the Mineral Blush Duo in Starlet ($15; victoriassecret.com) added a slight contour and a lit-from-within flush. After using a combination of the Eye Quad in Eye Contact, Liner in Dark Chocolate, and Volume Lift Mascara ($20, $12, and $15; victoriassecret.com) onto Kim’s lids, the Color Drama Lipstick in Melt ($14; victoriassecret.com) provided the finishing touch.
Get the full breakdown with step-by-step instructions in the video above, and be sure to catch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show tonight at 10 PM EST on CBS!
Revenge Season 3, Episode 9: All the Exclusive Wardrobe Details From Costume Designer Jill Ohanneson!Dec 9, 2013 @ 9:30 pm
After a two-week break, last night’s new episode of Revenge was well worth the wait! As Emily and Daniel take part in a romantic photo shoot for Voulez, the publication’s editor Margaux is intent on finding proof that David Clarke was framed. She advises her source Lydia to make herself scare until the story breaks, but Lydia has other plans in mind. As Emily and Victoria are finalizing the seating arrangements for the much-anticipated wedding, the two notice Victoria’s wardrobe taking flight over one of the mansion’s balconies, only to find Lydia tossing each item over the edge. After a brief confrontation between her and Emily, Lydia pushes Emily to the ground, prompting Daniel to rush to her side and reveal that the two are expecting. Victoria, of course, is less than pleased.
Sara, not wanting to be the secret in Daniel’s relationship, returns the necklace he gave to her years ago, and breaks things off with him. “Sara didn’t want to be the other woman anymore,” said costume designer Jill Ohanneson. “We dressed her in a printed H&M dress to suggest that she still has a soft, vulnerable side underneath all that anger.” Daniel admits that he is still in love with Sara, but Emily’s pregnancy complicates the situation, leaving him even more torn. Meanwhile, Lydia, who is Margaux’s anonymous source in the intended Grayson takedown, reunites with Conrad and records their conversation.
For Emily, Operation Grayson Takedown is also on track — she takes a bracelet from Victoria with the goal of framing the Grayson matriarch in her plan, and in the middle of a training session with Aiden, he proposes to Emily, despite the fact that she is marrying Daniel the very next day. Emily accepts, and after a moment of passion, she returns home, where Daniel and Victoria each confront her. Daniel clears the air about what happened between him and Sara, then later in the night, Victoria speaks to Emily to let her know she won’t be attending the wedding. That, and the fact that Lydia resurfaced an old picture of Emily disguised as a waitress at a Grayson family function, could prove to make Ms. Thorne’s plan of attack a little more complicated…

Between her many performances and her role as a new mommy, Fergie has quite the busy schedule, but somehow, her hair and makeup is always on point — even when she isn’t in front of the cameras. Her mantra? Never underestimate the power of a good lip gloss.
We caught up with the star at her party for Wet n Wild cosmetics in New York City, where she chatted with InStyle.com about her everyday beauty staples, and her tip to getting glam in five seconds flat. “For me, it’s lips. A little lip gloss goes a long way. To get ready quickly, I usually just throw on my glasses and a lip gloss or lipstick, and I’m out,” said Fergie, who noted that her lipstick of choice was the aptly-named Fergie Daily hue ($4; walgreens.com). “That’s why I named it that! I have different facets of my personality, so when I’m home, my makeup is very minimal, but I always like to kick it up a notch for stage.”
Another trick of the trade? Repurposing your eye shadow primer for an instant dewy glow. “The shimmer primer ($5; walgreens.com) is awesome! If you dot it just on the cheekbones, it adds a little glitter,” she added. “I love dewy looking skin with a matte t-zone, so that’s what I do.”
Here’s a Holiday Advertisement We Can Really Relate To! Watch Harvey Nichols’ Self-Indulgent Gift CampaignDec 6, 2013 @ 7:55 am
With the holidays only a few weeks away, it’s easy to get so wrapped up in finding gifts for others that you forget to treat yourself. Luckily, Harvey Nichols is allowing shoppers to have their cake and eat it too with their hilarious “Sorry, I Spent It On Myself” holiday campaign! The famed UK department store just launched a range of low-cost items — like paper clips, pieces of gravel, toothpicks, and more — for people who want to give friends and family at least something bearing the Harvey Nichols name while spending a little (or a lot) on themselves. We couldn’t help but side with the fashionista who gifted her father a set of rubber bands to buy herself a pair of Christian Louboutins. After all, the heels are undeniably gorgeous, and rubber bands can come in handy, right? While the products are only available at Harvey Nichols’ store locations and we’re slightly unsure of how our loved ones would react, the ad serves as a hilarious reminder not to leave yourself out this season, and we’re taking note. Watch the funny campaign in the video above, and if you’re in the mood to indulge a little, check out the great gift offerings priced at $25 and under in our gallery.
