Video of the Day: Beyoncé Debuts New Song “Standing on the Sun” in H&M Video

Apr 25, 2013 @ 10:35 am

It might only be April, but in the world of Beyoncé and H&M, summer is in full effect. The singer just released her first ad for the brand’s summer campaign, and the island-set clip (watch it above!) features a brand new track from Mrs. Carter. The drum-driven love song, titled “Standing on the Sun,” is likely her latest sneak peek into her forthcoming album, a vastly different follow-up to her pounding, Houston hip-hop-infused single “Bow Down/I Been On.” And it makes a perfect soundtrack for H&M’s summer collection—think fringed string bikinis, tie-dye bandeaus with high-waisted bottoms, and beaded LBDs—which Bey models with ease as she dances in wind, sand, and sun. Check out the clip above—but you’ve been fairly warned: you may experience symptoms of summer fever! The treatment? Just press replay, of course.

The Time 100 Gala, held to celebrate the magazine’s list of 100 most influential people in the world, took over New York’s Lincoln Center last night! It was quite the star-packed affair, with celebrities including Justin Timberlake and his wife Jessica Biel (both in Tom Ford), Claire Danes (in Lanvin), Girls creator Lena Dunham (in Saint Laurent), Michael Kors, and Olivia Munn (in a dress by the designer) mixing and mingling at the event. The festivities included performances by Miguel and Christina Aguilera, as well as a rousing speech by Vice President Joe Biden who asserted to the audience, “This list is unified by a simple belief that it’s all about basically not being told it can’t be done.” Click the photo to see more.

Zac Efron loves a good suit. He proved it on the red carpet at the New York screening of his latest film At Any Price, where he wore a tailored suit that showed off his very dapper appeal (above left). And while he’s very fashion-forward with his style choices, the 25-year-old California native says he looks to past all-American screen legends for inspiration on the red carpet. ”I like to think about the classic guys and what they wore,” Efron told InStyle.com before the screening. “Cary Grant, Paul Newman, and Robert Redford: those guys wear nice suits.” And so do you, Zac! Keep ‘em coming.

Tribeca Film Festival Fashion Moment: The Director Documentary Stars Gucci’s Frida Giannini, and It’s a Must-See for Fashion Lovers

Apr 23, 2013 @ 5:00 pm

Over 100 films are being screened during the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this week, and this is the one we’d vote for if we were jurors: The Director: An Evolution in Three Acts. The documentary goes behind the normally-private world of Gucci creative director Frida Giannini’s design process to show her involvement in directing everything, from selecting final looks for runway shows to auditioning models (watch the trailer above). “For me, clothes are always first a way for people to be seductive,” Giannini reveals in the film. “I don’t think the power woman needs to be necessarily hard. You can be sweet and sensual, and feminine. I think that is the strongest part.” The film was produced by James Franco—who, coincidentally, also happens to be the face of Gucci’s men’s colognes—and was directed by by Franco’s one-time New York University classmate Christina Voros. Is your interest piqued? Scroll down to read six things that solidified our girl crush on Frida Giannini after watching the film. More

A star wasn’t born last night in New York, but appropriately recognized: Barbra Streisand was the object of accolades and tributes from the likes of President Bill Clinton and wife Hillary, Catherine Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas, and more at the 40th Annual Chaplin Award Gala at Lincoln Center. The Film Society gives a Chaplin Award every year to an artist who has made significant contributions to the art of film. Streisand was also serenaded from some of music’s most iconic performers, including Liza Minnelli and Tony Bennett, who closed the program by singing Chaplin’s happy-go-lucky song “Smile.” And smile Babs did! Click the photo to see more of last night’s most star-studded parties.
