It was the word heard ’round the world—the Oxford Dictionaries has officially dubbed “selfie” 2013’s Word of the Year, beating out Miley Cyrus‘s “twerk,” which had a late in the year resurgence. But it was the term used to describe the social media self-portrait that truly captivated English speakers from the United States to Australia—coincidently where the word originated. “It seems like everyone who is anyone has posted a selfie somewhere on the Internet,” Oxford Dictionaries said in their blog post to announce the news. And they’re right: From Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler to the Obamas, it seems as if most people have gotten in on the fun–we even included a category for “Most Glam Selfie“ in our first-ever Social Media Awards. So in honor of this phenomenon, we want to see your best selfies! Tweet us your photos using the hashtag #InStyleSelfie.

Happy Birthday, Shailene Woodley! The young star celebrates her 22nd year today, and we’re predicting it’s going to be one of her most memorable one’s to date thanks to her upcoming role as Tris Prior in the film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s wildly popular young adult novel, Divergent. And while this isn’t her first big role — she earned a Golden Globe nod starring opposite George Clooney in the Oscar-nominated film The Descendants – it’s her first major studio film in which she’ll play the lead. With Divergent landing in theaters in March, we have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of Woodley, and we can’t wait. So in honor of what is sure to be a breakout year for the star, we’re taking a look back at her style evolution from newcomer to red carpet regular.
It’s down to the top 10 contestants on The Voice, and while Coach Christina Aguilera unfortunately lost one of her team members, Josh Logan, she didn’t miss a beat when it came to her hair and styling choices. “This week it was all about a sleek, clean look,” Aguilera’s hairstylist David Babaii told InStyle.com of her straightened strands, which were a noted change from the previous week’s curls. “Last week was about show,” he continued. “Her hair had a Marilyn Monroe-inspired feel, but this week it was just about keeping it classic.” To achieve her simple style, Babaii parted her hair and blew it dry using his T3 blow dryer. He then straightened her locks with a T3 iron. “It didn’t need a lot of product!” Instead, he just used hairspray to tame the flyaways. “Christina likes hairspray, so I sprayed it all over to set the look.” For more details on why he and Aguilera decided on this week’s styles, as well as the information on her outfits, check out the gallery! And be sure to catch Christina Aguilera and her contestants battling it out against Team Blake, Adam, and Cee Lo Monday on The Voice at 8/7c on NBC.
Exclusive! Details on Christina Aguilera’s Looks from the First Live Shows on The Voice from Stylist Simone HaroucheNov 11, 2013 @ 5:58 pm
The live shows on The Voice are in full swing! Last week marked the first week that the contestants and their coaches were performing and critiquing on the fly. So just how does Coach Christina Aguilera prepare for the spontaneity of live TV? With a team of stylists that aim to make her look just as good as her contestants sound, and we’ve got the scoop from stylist Simon Harouche on just how they get Christina looking her best all season long. “Before the live shows start we try to do as many fittings as possible,” Harouche told us. ”We photograph everything and make a book with all of the clothes along with her favorite hair and makeup looks. It’s kind of like a styling bible!” And while this serves as a guide, Aguilera goes with how she’s feeling to determine her look for the show that day. “It’s definitely an organic process,” Harouche says. Last week, Aguilera mixed it up going for three distinct looks: a sexy white dress for the first live show, a menswear-inspired look the next night and a stand-out embellished top for the results show. ”Christina likes to change things up,” Harouche continued. “She doesn’t always want to wear dresses all the time. It’s good to switch it up.” Catch Christina and her contestants battling it out against Team Blake, Adam, and Cee Lo tonight on The Voice at 8/7c on NBC.

Opening Night of the American Ballet Theatre’s Fall Season with Sigourney Weaver, Christian Siriano, and MoreOct 31, 2013 @ 5:57 pm
The scene at Lincoln Center was one filled with excitement as stars and designers alike gathered at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City last night for the American Ballet Theatre’s Opening Night Fall Gala. Celebrity fans of the ballet, including Sigourney Weaver, Alan Cumming, and the evening’s hosts Mark Badgely and James Mischka, were all looking forward to the magical but stormy evening ahead–the night’s theme was inspired by the world premiere of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” ”I love ABT. They’re such an amazing company, an amazing organization,” Sigourney Weaver (in Badgley Mischka) told InStyle.com as she made her way into the theater. A sentiment that Mischka seconded. “The performances are always amazing,” he said. “It’s always astonishing and an inspiration to see them.” And that it was! The two-hour performance was well received by the more than 700 guests who were all treated to two world premieres, the “Aftereffect” choreographed by Marcelo Gomes, and “The Tempest” choreographed by Alexei Ratmansky.
After the performances (and many rousing rounds of applause), guests headed upstairs where they entered a real-life tempest. To create the effect of the stormy seas featured in the ballet, designer Bronson van Wyck installed a 180-foot hand painted mural and floor-to-ceiling tornados throughout the space. “These tornados are so cool!” designer Christian Siriano told InStyle.com. The theme even extended to the menu, too, which included a “Tempest” appetizer course of meats and cheese, and even into the night’s signature cocktail, which was a stormy concoction of sweet fruit flavors. But the night wasn’t all glamour, the event raised $1.65 million dollars for the ABT and their education and community outreach programs.
