Oscars 2012 Makeup: Emma Stone’s Pink Eye Shadow

Feb 27, 2012 @ 12:40 pm

First-time presenter Emma Stone made a bold beauty move at the Oscars choosing pink eye shadow. “I was very inspired by her fuchsia Giambattista Valli dress, and wanted to play with various shades of pink on her face,” her makeup artist Rachel Goodwin told InStyle.com. She swept a shimmery ballerina pink shadow from the Revlon Colorstay Goddess Quad ($6 at target.com) along the entire lid, followed with an ultra-thin swipe of Revlon Cream Gel Eyeliner in Black along the top lashline ($10 at ulta.com). “Pink on its own can look sickly, but the firm black line grounded the look,” Goodwin explained. A swirl of petal pink blush and a touch of berry lip stain finished the look. “Everything was transparent so it wouldn’t be compete with that gorgeous dress,” Goodwin said. Beautiful!

Oscars 2012 Makeup: How to Get Michelle Williams’s Peony Pink Lipstick

Feb 27, 2012 @ 10:20 am

Best Actress nominee Michelle Williams paired her burnt orange Louis Vuitton dress with a perfect peony-toned lipstick. “My inspiration was a flower!Chanel makeup artist Angela Levin told us of creating Williams’s look. “Michelle looked so gorgeous and delicate in her dress, it made me think of a rose I have in my garden in that very same color.” Levin blended Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Paradis, a French rose color, and Destinee, an amaranth tone, together to create the unique lipstick shade. “She was like a flower in a beautiful garden,” Levin adds. Find the hues for $32.50 each at chanel.com.

Oscars 2012 Beauty Alert: Kristen Wiig’s New Highlights

Feb 26, 2012 @ 7:45 pm

Academy Award nominee Kristen Wiig updated her hairstyle! The Bridesmaids star added sunny, blond highlights, thanks to Amy Huson at Marie Robinson Salon in New York City. “When Kristen walked into the room and I saw her gorgeous new hair color I was so inspired,” said hairstylist Mark Townsend, who created her waves for Oscar night. Townsend told InStyle.com that he gave Wiig an “edgy wave” by wrapping sections of hair around a 1-1/2 inch curling iron. He raked two pumps of Dove Style + Care Frizz Free Shine Cream Serum through the waves to break them up and add shine and hold. As to why he opted for such a low-key look on such a high-wattage night? “Kristen iss gorgeous and sexy. We didn’t want her to look overly done. We wanted her true personality to stand out,” he said. Mission accomplished!

We love the lively and exuberant vibe Corinne Bailey Rae, Kelly Rowland, and Diana Ross brought to the Grammy Awards red carpet with their naturally curly hairstyles! Rae swept hers over to one side, Rowland gathered hers into a huge ponytail on the back of her head, and Ross let hers hang full and loose. So, do you ever wear your hair curly?

Grammys 2012 Hair Trend: Sleek Ponytails

Jessie J, Fergie, Melanie Fiona and Tia Carrere all pulled their hair up tight into high, glossy ponytails at the 2012 Grammys. The look is at once simple and dramatic—and it’s a fun way to show-off extra long extensions. Wrapping a section of hair around the base of the ponytail and securing it with a bobby pin conceals the elastic and dresses the look up for the red carpet. Fergie, who won for her “All of the Lights” collaboration, used this very trick.

Jennifer Lawrence’s New Red Hair a “Happy Accident”

The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence is now a redhead! “Her new color is actually a happy accident,” hairstylist Mark Townsend told InStyle.com exclusively. “It’s been colored and re-colored so many times I told her to give it a break and use stripping shampoos.” Lawrence—who went from blond to brunet to, now, red—last had her hair colored by Joico colorist Cherry Petenbrink for her upcoming role as Katniss Everdeen. “Jennifer had such gorgeous natural blond hair when she arrived at my studio, I had to fill it to build color. Our end result was a deep, level five brunet,” Petenbrink told us. “Jennifer was nervous, but she loved it. She told us ‘I can live with this for three movies.’” The colorist also adds that a product like Joico K-Pak Color Therapy Shampoo and Restorative Oil (available at salons) can help preserve rich color the longest.
