Inside the Homes of Our Fave Designers

Jun 1, 2010 @ 4:57 pm

American Fashion Designers at Home, a new coffee table book by the CFDA and Assouline, gives readers a peek inside the homes of 115 fashion designers, including Donna Karan‘s lush Parrot Cay getaway as well as the luxurious abodes of Ralph Lauren and CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg. Naturally, we can expect breathtaking decor and a keen attention to color from such an illustrious group, but author Rima Suqi reveals the homes’ creative owners aren’t solely to credit for their luxe environs.  “A lot of people have help, they just don’t always admit it,” she told WWD. “But these designers all read home magazines and have a lot of books on design…A lot of designers have fun with their homes.” The book hits stores in September, but in the meantime, click on the gallery for a glimpse inside four designer homes.

Heidi Klum & Seal: Marriage Counselors

Jun 1, 2010 @ 12:48 pm

Heidi Klum and Seal aren’t just one of Hollywood’s hottest couples, they’re also one of the happiest. So it’s no surprise that the adorable twosome are sharing their secrets to a successful marriage on an upcoming Lifetime series. Tentatively titled Love’s Divine, the series will feature Klum and Seal traveling around the country counseling couples in trouble, and raising the romance quotient in a relationship will likely be high on their list of advice. “My husband always gives really heartfelt presents—beautiful letters, even songs,” Klum told us in our February issue. “It’s the way he surprises me with them that makes it romantic and memorable.” With Klum’s charm and Seal’s thoughtfulness, we can’t think of better coaches to guide couples in need.

Sienna Miller’s Brand New Bangs

May 28, 2010 @ 12:59 pm

It’s been a banner month for bangs—first Gwyneth Paltrow sported fringe as Pepper Potts in Iron Man 2 and Gwen Stefani recently traded in her retro waves for a rocker lob with statement bangs. Now Sienna Miller has followed suit, sporting a chic new eye-grazing style at Matthew Williamson’s Belvedere Pink Grapefruit launch party this week. While easy, tousled waves have become the British beauty’s signature style, she’s done her share of experimenting. She dyed her famous blond tresses brown in 2004 and then cropped it into a bob to play Warhol muse Edie Sedgwick a year later. Interested in trying the trend yourself? We’ve got the best cut for your face shape and tons of bang styles for you to try!

We knew we’d be drooling over Carrie‘s wardrobe in SATC2, but after seeing the film yesterday it’s her and Big’s chic Manhattan apartment that left us filled with style envy. “I’ve been cheating on fashion with furniture,” Carrie says in the film and we think she’s got a keen eye for both! Each room combines Big’s sophisticated tastes with Carrie’s eclectic, color-loving style—the furniture boasts neutral tones and clean lines, while the accent pieces have a one-of-a-kind sensibility. We love the soft gray tufted armchair and florals pillows paired with stripes. Get a similar look with Room & Board’s wingbacked Louis chair, Paul Smith’s Birdie Blossom pillow and Crate & Barrel’s San Miguel pillow. Click on the gallery for more pics of their covetable apartment and tips on how you can get the style!

Go Inside Louis Vuitton’s London Launch Party

May 28, 2010 @ 11:38 am

Earlier this week, Louis Vuitton hosted a star-studded bash to celebrate its new Bond Street Maison store, and a new video takes us inside the festivities. Amidst the luxe surroundings, Alexa Chung asks celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow and Kirsten Dunst about their most treasured Vuitton piece.  (The answer for both? A vintage trunk.) “Everyone would like a vintage trunk if they could have one. I want to put all my records in one,” said Dunst. Our favorite part of the video? Marc Jacobs singing “On the Radio” alongside disco queen Donna Summer. Check it out above!

SJP Pays Tribute To McQueen At SATC2 Premiere

May 28, 2010 @ 10:22 am

For the London premiere of Sex and The City 2, Sarah Jessica Parker paid tribute to her good friend the late Alexander McQueen in a stunning silk and lace bustier gown from his Spring 2008 collection. The actress’s homage to the British design legend didn’t stop there: She paired the gown with a towering tulle headpiece by McQueen’s frequent collaborator Phillip Treacy and a black armband encrusted with Fred Leighton diamond clips as a sign of mourning. This is the second time a McQueen-Treacy combo has produced an unforgettable look for SJP. The star famously wore a lime green chiffon dress and butterfly-strewn hat by the duo to Sex and The City: The Movie‘s London premiere in 2008. Parker’s memorial to McQueen continues stateside on June 7th where she’ll present the CFDA’s Special Tribute Award in his honor.

Theory Taps Olivier Theyskens For Capsule Collection

May 27, 2010 @ 10:52 am

Oliver Theyskens is finally ready for his comeback: His first gig since leaving Nina Ricci—where his collections were critically-acclaimed if not always commercially successful—is with department store staple Theory, for whom he’ll design a capsule collection timed to debut in the spring of 2011. The Belgian designer, who first gained international notice as the creative director of Rochas, has a flair for creating fresh red carpet looks: The canary yellow Nina Ricci Reese Witherspoon wore to the 2007 Golden Globes is still a classic. So we can’t wait to see what he does for Theory, which is better known for office-ready basics than gala-worthy gowns. Stay tuned for more details!
