Salma Hayek to Launch Beauty Line for CVS!

Mar 1, 2011 @ 11:04 am

Salma Hayek first mentioned plans to create a mass-market beauty collection two years ago, and now it’s finally coming true! The actress announced plans to launch her first beauty line named Nuance for CVS next year. “I always wanted to do this,” she told T Magazine, adding that she’s been working on it for seven years. Her driving source of inspiration: Her grandmother, a former cosmetologist who used to make her own products. “My grandmother, who was a beauty, she died at 96 with no wrinkles,” Hayek said. “And you should see my mother! We have some family secrets.” The lineup will include body gel, a brow kit, and facial cream cleanser, among other items.

Feb 28, 2011 @ 12:13 pm

Smartphone and iPad app chart-topper Angry Birds—the game that involves slingshotting angry pigeons at pigs with touchscreen technology—is about to get fashionable. Initial prototypes are still in design, WWD reported, but the company is hoping to launch the first Angry Birds flip flops collection for men, women and children this fall. The Angry Birds application retails for $0.99 on iTunes and has already sold 12 million copies, while the flip flops will retail for $15 at department and specialty stores. The performances for the Best Original Song category at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards were just as stylish as the red carpet arrivals! Gwyneth Paltrow performed “Coming Home” from her film Country Strong wearing a Michael Kors one-shoulder jersey gown with crystal embroidery; Mandy Moore, who wore Monique Lhuillier on the red carpet, also wore the designer during her performance of “I See the Light” from Tangled with co-star Zachary Levi; and Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine wore a Roksanda Ilincic persimmon gown for her performance of “If I Rise” with A.R. Rahman, a part that was originally sung by Dido for the film 127 Hours. The category’s fourth and final nominee—Randy Newman (not shown) for “We Belong Together” from Toy Story 3—took home the Oscar.

Giuliana Rancic Won’t Wear Foundation to the Oscars

Feb 25, 2011 @ 12:08 pm

E! News anchor Giuliana Rancic is going bare for this Sunday’s 83rd annual Academy Awards. Skin-wise, that is! The Fashion Police officer told us she’s planning to hit the Oscars red carpet without foundation. “Under the bright lights, cameras, and HD televisions, foundation can be very noticeable, especially if you’re wearing too much of it,” Rancic told InStyle exclusively. Her secret to skipping the stuff: DDF Skincare’s Revolve 400X Micro-Polishing System microdermabrasion kit ($95 at DDFSkincare.com). “It’s incredible. It actually helps polish away my day-to-day imperfections, making my skin look absolutely beautiful,” said Rancic, who also plans to wear a Christian Siriano gown. “To me, natural, healthy looking skin is really beautiful. With a little concealer, eyeshadow, liner, gloss and bronzer, I love my lighter makeup look.” Her favorite part? “I’ve saved so much money on facials!”

Christopher Kane to Launch Collection With J Brand Jeans

Feb 24, 2011 @ 5:55 pm

Good news, denim lovers: J Brand just announced that it will collaborate with British designer Christopher Kane to launch a capsule collection for his 2012 resort collection. Kane, who just showed his fall collection during London Fashion Week last weekend, has collaborated with J Brand before—last year, J Brand founder Jeff Rudes recruited Kane for the labels 5×5 project, which tapped five British designers to create a pair of jeans (Kane’s camo style, shown left, retailed for $500). After their first successful partnership, Rudes is excited for what’s to come: “We are delighted to be working with Christopher to build a long term viable denim business with him,” Rudes said in a statement. J Brand has previously partnered with Proenza Schouler, Hussein Chalayan, Henry Duarte, and Erdem.
