Katie Couric Goes Makeup-Free On Friday’s Show!

Jan 10, 2013 @ 3:59 pm

Katie Couric is baring it all on her show tomorrow! She’s going makeup-free to interview Phoebe Baker Hyde, author of the new book The Beauty Experiment, where she gave up makeup, new clothing, jewelry and more. Instead of applying Katie’s beauty staples—like Lancôme concealer, Laura Mercier eye shadows and L’Oréal mascara—the talk show host is simply cleansing her face in the morning with Dove face wash and Lancôme moisturizer. “I’ve been on television for a while now, but this is a first for me! No makeup…what am I thinking?” Couric told InStyle.com exclusively. “But the average American woman spends $12,000-$15,000 on beauty and salon treatments annually, not to mention 160 hours every year on primping and grooming. That’s an entire week of your life every year! So we thought it would be interesting to do a show like this, and if Phoebe Baker Hyde can do it for a whole year, I can surely do it for an hour, right?” Tune in to Katie tomorrow, Friday, January 11 (click here to see when it airs near you) to see the the talk show host go au natural! And tell us: What’s your makeup routine?

Congratulations, Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani! The pair took home the Mirrorball Trophy last night on the Dancing with the Stars All Star finale after a flawless samba and freestyle performance on Monday night. Season 15′s top prize was a long time coming for Rycroft, who was the only competitor in the final three to have never won before (she came in third on season 8). The results played out exactly the same as what our readers predicted, with 47.25% of InStyle.com fans voting for Melissa and Tony. “It was a tough finals, and all the finalists deserved to win because they showed strength, creativity and determination,” pro dancer Karina Smirnoff told InStyle.com. “Tony waited a long time for this moment!” Smirnoff added. “I’m thrilled he got to experience this after so long and with Melissa because they were a perfect match together.” Congrats to the couple! In celebration, watch at the winning pair’s final dance above.

Dancing With the Stars: Karina Smirnoff on Her “Hero” Dress

Nov 13, 2012 @ 5:32 pm

Last night’s episode of Dancing With the Stars was a tribute to Veteran’s Day, so pro-dancer Karina Smirnoff designed her costume with the military in mind. “I wanted to make sure the colors of my dress represented our troops as well as the powerful tango,” Smirnoff told InStyle.com of the dance she performed with partner Apolo Anton Ohno. “The tango is a unique, fun, strong, and dominant dance, so I wanted to create two sides to the dress—a softer lower part and a powerful top. The high-waisted skirt was elegant and sophisticated, and the top part screamed out empowerment,” Smirnoff said. The pair earned a 29.5 out of 30 for their tango to “Holding Out for a Hero” (which featured Ohno zip-lining from the balcony onto the dance floor!), but is it enough to survive tonight’s double elimination? Watch the all-new episode at 8/7c on ABC to see who makes the final four!
