Remembering Donna Summer, 1948 — 2012

May 17, 2012 @ 2:20 pm

“Queen of Disco” Donna Summer, whose chart-toppers provided the soundtrack for the 1970s club scene, has died today at the age of 63. The five-time Grammy winner rose to fame with hits like “Hot Stuff” and “Bad Girls” before co-writing the singles “Love to Love You Baby” and “She Works Hard for the Money.” Summer not only leaves a musical legacy as a multiplatinum-selling artist, she was also an actress, appearing in the 1978 film Thank God It’s Friday—which eared her a Best Song Oscar for “Last Dance.” She is survived by her husband, Brooklyn Dreams vocalist Bruce Sudano, as well as three daughters and four grandchildren. Click through the gallery to view the disco queen’s most memorable style moments. Forever and ever, we love to love you Donna!

The season finale of Fashion Star aired last night, and Kara Laricks took home the top prize—a $6 million contract with Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and H&M! “I very specifically remember standing on that stage and thinking nothing but ‘I’m grateful,’” Laricks told InStyle.com exclusively. “It’s been a lifelong dream to be able to create a full collection, and see people shopping it and people loving it.” While the designer showcased collections for all three retailers last night, our top pick is the sleeveless tuxedo shift dress she designed for Macy’s ($79 at macys.com). With its sleek cut and black and white color palette, it’s the perfect canvas for bold accessories. “I want people to be able to celebrate each side of their personality,” Laricks said of her designs. “I design in a way that you can take any piece and determine how you want to style it and make it comfortable for you.” Congratulations, Kara!

Diane Kruger’s Cannes Film Festival Wardrobe: All the Details

May 15, 2012 @ 3:35 pm

In celebration of the Cannes Film Festival, which starts tomorrow, we caught up with the event’s star jury member Diane Kruger to find out what she’s packing for France. “I feel like the Riviera, for whatever reason, has invited designers to be quite outrageous,” the actress told us at a luncheon for luxury timepiece label Jaeger LeCoultre. “People allow themselves to be extravagant. They play it a little less safe. It’s a big spectacle.” Find out what’s in Kruger’s Cannes suitcase in the gallery, and check back tomorrow for updates from the Cannes red carpet.
