In the The Hunger Games book, the Capitol is described as an overindulgent place of colored hair and exquisite fashion—and we can’t wait to see how the movie’s head costume designer Judianna Makovsky interpreted Suzanne Collins’ futuristic vision for the big screen. “We had so much to go on from the book,” Makovsky told InStyle.com of how she conceptualized the designs. “A lot of the decisions were made before [the cast] was even hired.” That includes dozens of costumes for lead actors Katniss, Peeta, Gale, and Effie as well as thousands more for extras. And, in an exciting twist, we might be seeing these beyond the theaters. “Nothing in confirmed, but I’m pretty sure they’ll go on display, some sort of exhibit,” she said. Wouldn’t that be great?! See more need-to-know costume info from Makovsky in the gallery now, and check out the movie in theaters this Friday, March 23rd.
At the kickoff to the 2nd World Conference of Women’s Shelters in Washington, D.C., Avon Global Ambassador Reese Witherspoon told reporters that the prevention of domestic violence begins at home. The actress also showed her commitment to the cause when she unveiled Avon’s new Empowerment Circle of Support necklace. Net profits from the sale of the $5 charm, a ring of interlocked infinity symbols, will fund the Avon Foundation’s global efforts to end violence against women. “Wear the Empowerment necklace proudly,” Witherspoon said of the charitable chain. “You are making a difference!” Shop the piece at shop.avon.com.

Jennifer Aniston’s new movie Wanderlust opens today, and if you go see it be sure to check out the chic accessories on our March InStyle cover girl. Jennifer Meyer created two of the pieces Aniston’s character Linda wears, and we caught up with the jewelry designer (and wife of actor Tobey Maguire) to get the inside scoop on her movie star-worthy looks. “Jennifer has such an amazing, innate sense of style,” Meyer told InStyle.com. “Ultimately, Jen always knows what her character should be in and has the final say.” For Wanderlust, Aniston wore Meyer’s Double Dome Ring ($6,500 at ylang23.com) and Diamond Stick Necklace ($1,050 at barneys.com). And this isn’t the first time she’s worn Meyer on the big screen—Aniston also wore Meyer pieces for The Breakup, Marley & Me, Just Go With It, and He’s Just Not That Into You. “She is not only an amazing model for my jewelry,” Meyer said, “but I am also lucky to call her a friend.” Tell us: Do you plan on seeing Wanderlust?

Whitney Houston created plenty of memorable moments on the Grammys red carpet. Our top five: the vibrant blue chiffon sheath she chose for her first Grammys in 1986, the embellished LBD and ankle cuffs she wore in 1988, her bodycon white sequined column at the 1994 ceremony, the hot pink Emanuel Ungaro gown and matching stole she donned 2000, and the blue and beige ombre gown from Zuhair Murad she showed off backstage in 2009. Which one is your favorite? Let us know by casting your vote in the poll below! More
“I like modeling, but singing was in my blood. There was no way to escape that,” Whitney Houston has said. Though she had enjoyed success as a model, Houston made the transition from magazine covers to album covers with the 1985 release of her debut LP. Over the next 25 years, she would appear on 5 more studio albums, 2 soundtracks and 4 compilation disks. Our favorites: the singer looking regal on her first record, Whitney Houston, in a plain white tank top and her signature smile; the 1987 follow-up, Whitney; in character for 1992’s record-breaking soundtrack for The Bodyguard; and accessorizing her curve-hugging knit dress with black leather gloves and boots for 1998’s My Love is Your Love. Which cover is your all-time favorite? Cast your vote in our poll below. More

Liv Tyler is one lucky woman! When the Robot and Frank star stopped by InStyle‘s Sundance portrait studio, she revealed that her pretty berry lip color came from a custom-blended gloss stick made especially for her by the beauty team at Givenchy. “I’m trying to convince them to add it to their collection and call it ‘Liv’s Lips,’” said Tyler, who also serves as the face of the label’s fragrance and makeup campaigns. While the couture color is exclusively hers for now, Tyler did share a simple tip that anyone can do at home: “If your lips are really dry, you can just literally put olive oil on them at night.” We tried it and it worked—thanks Liv!
