Melissa Joy Manning’s Eco-Friendly Jewelry for Doo.Ri

Jan 21, 2011 @ 4:16 pm

Designer Doo.Ri Chung (inset), who has dressed Kristen Stewart, Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox, teamed up with jewelry designer Melissa Joy Manning to create a line of eco-friendly jewelry that just landed in stores. “Fallen spider webs were a key theme in the development of Doo.Ri’s collection,” Manning told InStyle of the pieces, which debuted at Doo.Ri’s spring 2011 fashion show and are made of recycled silver in Manning’s eco-certified Berkeley, California studio. “I had been independently documenting webs found in nature, so this was an ideal collaboration that came together easily under our collective efforts.” The cuffs, necklaces and rings are available online at LaGarconne.com. Michelle Obama’s Red Looks

Jan 20, 2011 @ 12:57 pm

First Lady Michelle Obama attended two events at the White House yesterday honoring the Republic of China and the country’s president Hu Jintao. In the morning, she wore a Roksanda Ilincic dress and matching coat, which she accented with a pair of patent leather red gloves. For the evening’s state dinner, she opted for an Alexander McQueen red gown with black brushstrokes from the 2011 resort collection. Her choice of red wasn’t an accident—red is the traditional color of good luck and happiness in China. Also at the dinner was Vera Wang, Michelle Kwan and Barbra Streisand.

Golden Globes: Who Did You Vote Best Dressed?

Jan 19, 2011 @ 1:52 pm

Dianna Agron! Not only did Glee take home three awards at the Golden Globes on Sunday, but you voted Agron as your favorite look in our InStyle Best Dressed Poll. (Anne Hathaway took second place.) The actress’s winning look was a J. Mendel gown, which she paired with a Cathy Waterman diamond necklace. The J. Mendel label is quickly becoming a red-carpet staple—counting Kristen Stewart, Taylor Swift and Demi Moore among its many celebrity fans. However, fun fact: It was first known for its furs. It’s also a family business; the current designer Gilles Mendel is the fifth generation to direct the label. Well, Agron and Mendel certainly made a great pair—another win for the Gleeks!

Fashion Designers Announce Charitable Green Fashion Show

Jan 19, 2011 @ 11:21 am

Green wasn’t just the hottest color at the recent Golden Globes, it’s also a growing movement. Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Burberry, Rachel Roy (design shown) and more announced today that they are taking part in Runway to Green, a charitable fashion show to be held in New York on March 29, reports WWD. While the fashions that will be seen at the show—which will be from the designers’ fall 2011 collections—aren’t required to be eco-friendly, all of the clothes shown will go on sale immediately after the show on Net-a-Porter.com. The proceeds will benefit various environmental causes, including the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Alliance for Climate Protection.
