Happy birthday, Oscar de la Renta! The iconic designer, who turns 82 today, became internationally known in the 1960s as one of the couturiers to dress Jacqueline Kennedy. Born in the Domincan Republic, de la Renta studied fashion in Spain and Paris and eventually made his way to New York City to begin his own ready-to-wear line in 1965. He has gone on to dress a multitude of celebrities both on and off the red carpet; fans include Hollywood legends Audrey Hepburn (pictured above with de la Renta) and Liza Minnelli, as well as stars like Taylor Swift, Zooey Deschanel (our August cover girl!), Jessica Chastain, Sarah Jessica Parker, Blake Lively, and many more.
His creations aren’t limited to gorgeous dresses—de la Renta also designs home goods, furniture, bridal gowns, childrenswear, and has penned several books. Furthermore, the fashion legend has received numerous accolades for his work. De la Renta was inducted into the Coty Hall of Fame in 1973, served as President of the CFDA for multiple terms, and was honored with the CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990.
