For InStyle’s August issue, the refreshingly funny and free-spirited Kate Upton chatted us up about the downside of clear braces, the makeup artist she fired, her secret to keeping those famous assets in place—and even revealed the beauty products she can’t live without. After you check out our exclusive interview with the star, keep scrolling to shop her seven must-haves.

You just landed your first cosmetics contract with Bobbi Brown. It was only a matter of time …
I waited for the best! I grew up using her products—my mom and my sisters all had them.

So how old were you when you started wearing makeup?
I was around 13. My older sister would do my makeup. I hated it. She’d lick a Q-tip to fix my eyeliner. Disgusting, right? I fired her.

Better her than a stranger! Did you ever go through an awkward stage?

I wore braces for a year and a half. They were the clear ones, before Invisalign came out. It looked like I had enlarged gums! I would’ve preferred the silver ones.

Well, your teeth look perfect now. Is there still one thing you’d like to change about yourself?

I’ve been trying to stop biting my nails. My grand-parents would check our nails, and I could always tell they were super-disappointed with mine.

Have any beauty tips we can steal?

I’m all about shortcuts. My new thing is to use BB cream—it takes away a step because it’s a little bit tinted. Then I put a cream blush on my cheeks and dab a bit on my lips. Done!

Kate Upton’s Beauty Must-Haves:

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara

David Kirsch Wellness Super Charged Greens Blend and Thermo Bubbles

 The Original Beauty Blender

Greg Marino

“I don’t always apply foundation to my entire face, but when I do, I use this egg-shaped sponge ($20;sephora.com). It blends to perfection.”
