Any fashion aficionado knows that a day dedicated to some heavy-duty shopping should be treated like a marathon—not a sprint. And the best way to get into the “shop ’til you drop” mindset and build endurance is with plenty of sustenance on hand.
Enter Scott Sternberg, the creative director of Band of Outsiders, who is marrying fashion and food with the announcement of a Momofuku Milk Bar opening in one of the street windows of the retailer’s New York flagship store on 72 Wooster Street this fall. Famous for its playful, crazy-addictive cookies, like the “compost” and the “blueberry and cream,” the cookie-centric bakery will whip up cookie favorites among core classics at its new SoHo location (the first in the area!).
“We want our store to be about more than just an awesome shop where you can buy great clothes,” Sternberg said in a statement. “We want it to be an awesome shop where you can buy great cookies too.”
The shop-in-shop might seem random, but for all those who know Sternberg’s love affair with cookies, the union was inevitable. (The guy once had a blog devoted to cookies; its “About” section reads: “Why cookies? You should be ashamed for even asking.”) For his runway shows, Sternberg and Christina Tosi, chef/owner and founder of Milk Bar, have collaborated to create custom cookies to gift to guests—a partnership they’ve continued for years; most recently, “Cosmic” cookies came to fruition inspired by the spring 2015 menswear collection.
“We are so excited for our new home in SoHo,” Tosi said, “and even better, it’s alongside our fashion friends, who have a ridiculous obsession with cookies just like us!”
