Yasmin Le Bon, at 49, is new the face and body of Speedo Sculpture’s spring/summer 2014 collection of body-shaping swimwear. The fact that Le Bon looks fabulous in the suits at nearly 50 and after three children reinforces the brand’s message that women of any age shouldn’t feel anxious about being seen in a bathing suit.
Naturally, it helps to have the right suit. Rather than going for maximum exposure, the collection favors one pieces with leg lines cut on the forgivingly low side. Styles range from ’50s-influenced halternecks with wrapping and ruching detail that add waist definition, to sleek V-necks that enhance cleavage. Made from a particularly chlorine-resistant Lycra, all offer bust support, tummy control, a range of cup sizes (B through E), and adjustable straps, and are available in numerous colors including aqua, pink, and coral, as well as slimming black.
Le Bon, who became a supermodel in the early ’80s complete with rock star boyfriend (husband Simon Le Bon, lead singer of style-conscious New Romantic band Duran Duran), has also created an accompanying handbook (available on the Speedo Sculpture Facebook page) that offers hints on how to feel body-confident in a bathing suit. Some are modeling tips—like lifting a knee to flatten tummies while lying down—while most are common sense, like good posture, relaxing, and smiling are key. Of course, first on the list would be looking like Le Bon in a swimsuit at any age, let alone 49.
The Speedo Sculpture line can be found on figleaves.com, with prices ranging from $70 through $125.
