One thing we love seeing our June cover girl Shailene Woodley do after walking a red carpet is kick off her heels (literally) and hit the streets sans shoes. Pictured above going barefoot at the 2014 Met Gala (in Rodarte), the Los Angeles premiere of The Spectacular Now with her co-star Miles Teller (in Proenza Schouler), and at the Berlin premiere of Divergent (in Zuhair Murad)—this should come as no surprise—the star has long professed she’s all about comfort when it comes to getting dressed.

While Woodley enjoys getting glam for the big events, her off-duty style is another story. “In my own life, I’m not into heels and still not into dresses, but I respect the creativity behind it,” she tells our cover story writer Sara Vilkomerson.

The actress has a minimalist approach when it comes to getting dressed each day and reveals an inventory of her current wardrobe: three long-sleeve shirts, seven short-sleeve shirts, two tank tops, a few pairs of leggings, jeans, and overalls. A devoted thrift store shopper, she says she hasn’t “bought a piece of clothing in a year or two.”

Her barefoot style fits into her no-frills way of life that’s all about staying true to who she is. “My rule is, everything I wear has to be something I’m comfortable in,” Woodley says. “Otherwise, I feel like I’m wearing a mask on the red carpet … It’s important to be yourself.”
