Memorial Day is but a little more than a week away, and everyone is trying to get their beach body–act together. You have the cool girls filling Instagram with plenty of #fitspo, like Hannah Bronfman boxing or taking a Beyoncé dance class. Then there are the mind meets body–conscious celebs, like Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz, who are savvy to every new way to get fit and zen. Suddenly it seems like every SoulCycle bike or barre method class is filled with a crop of girls working out hard while stepping up their fashion game.

But just because “everyone else is doing it” doesn’t mean you should be running (literally) to buy a brand new workout wardrobe. Try investing in a few new pieces as motivation to hit the treadmill on the regular. I felt inspired to update my own gym looks after seeing Stella McCartney for Adidas (above, left) during London fashion week.  Her clothing was made for sweaty exercise but had the feeling of cool yet refined street wear mixed in.

Instead of spending loads on new finds, stick to a color scheme of black, grey, and white. Then mix in brights like yellow and orange—this guarantees your future purchases will work together.  If you wear all dark colors, try adding a bold sneaker or vice versa. Just don’t go overboard with neons! And remember, not everything you wear needs to be from the athletic department.  A hoodie, sunglasses and bag borrowed from your closet will help round out your outfit and ensure you look polished as you head to and from the gym.  Shop my favorites to update your activewear wardrobe!
