As the face of Dior, Jennifer Lawrence has had a long-standing relationship with the brand. In the past year, we’ve witnessed the actress in a nonstop parade of Dior gowns, couture and otherwise, on the red carpet. In fact, we had seen so much of Lawrence in Dior (falling in Dior, accepting awards in Dior, sitting front row at Dior, posing for Dior) that we could barely recall a time when she wasn’t contractually obligated to wear the label. And that’s why we were so taken aback when she broke her streak and hit the world premiere of X-Men: Days of Future Past on Saturday in a non-Dior dress. (Only Lawrence could rock headlines for playing designer switcheroo!)
The actress stunned all when she stepped out in a slinky velvet jacquard bias-cut Jason Wu slip gown that molded to her every curve. She further amped up the sensuality by pairing the rich fabric with dark, moody accessories, like Ana Khouri jewelry and a black Kotur clutch. What’s more, she even debuted a new hairstyle: a deep-parted style with her longer strands slicked to one side.
It’s definitely a new look for Lawrence, and it’s one we can get behind (though after much deliberation). It could be the beginning of a whole new aesthetic or simply a one-time fluke. As to whether she’ll experiment with other brands or resume her Dior run, we’ll just have to wait until her next red carpet appearance.
