Today, we honor the late Shirley Temple, who would have been 86 today. Arguably the most popular child star of all time, Temple set a precedent in Hollywood. Appearing in over 35 feature films, which include the classics Heidi and Curly Top, Temple earned a—at the time—record-breaking salary of $50,000 per film.
Temple ultimately retired from acting at age 22, taking on an entirely different role as a foreign diplomat, serving as a U.S. Ambassador for both Ghana and Czechoslovakia. We will always remember Temple as the fresh-faced, curly-haired beauty so many of us fell in love with on the big screen. Cheers, Shirley!
