It took a French visionary to bring together two iconic yet disparate brands—one from America, for adults; the other from Japan, for kids. And, it comes as no surprise that the result is an ingenious creation that contains a certain French fabulosity that makes us want to hop over to the other side of the pond, stat, for a cappuccino, a croissant, and a little afternoon shopping.

To honor the 60th anniversary of Playboy and the 40th of Hello Kitty (what’s that in cat years?), Paris’s ultimate high-fashion concept store, Colette, has created a line of goods featuring a clever mash up of two of the world’s most recognizable characters: the bow-topped Sanrio cat and the bow-tied Playboy rabbit. The 16 limited edition items, which include mugsmini-speakers, an iPhone case and even socks, debuted this month. Some items feature Hello Kitty sporting crooked bunny ears while others showcase the bunny with a blue bow at the ears.

For Colette‘s creative director, Sarah Andelman, the line speaks to a certain generation’s collective history as well as her own: “Hello Kitty has been a part of my life since I was 15 or 16,” she says. Us too. And with these playful new pieces, that childhood nostalgia is something we don’t have to part with anytime soon.
