Karl Lagerfeld has come to London to let his hair down. Well, not literally of course–nothing disturbs that famous ponytail–but the UK-centric collection he created for the opening of his eponymous Karl Lagerfeld label’s first London store is a departure from the ladylike Parisian chic of Chanel or the Milanese gloss of Prada, with Kate Moss-y rock chick items like distressed skinny jeans and a sweater emblazoned with a Union Jack.

The prices are more relaxed too. Can’t manage $3500 for a Chanel classic chain-strapped 2.55 quilted bag? The Lagerfeld “Kuilted” bag stamped with intertwined Ks instead of Cs is a more accessible $470. If you just want a smidgen of the Lagerfeld touch, there are plenty of “affordable luxury” items too, like an iPhone case bearing Lagerfeld’s silhouette, a replica of his own fingerless gloves, and even a Karl Lagerfeld figurine.

Equally youthful is the store’s embrace of high tech: product rails bear iPad minis that display the ready-to-wear capsule collections (known as “Kollections”–has Karl become an honorary Kardashian?), a digital guestbook where you can leave comments for the designer, and fitting rooms equipped with photobooths that allow shoppers to photograph their looks and share the images on social media.
