The more jewels, the merrier, right?
That was the motto that permeated through the spring 2014 collections, setting a shimmering stage for the warmer weather ahead. Looks decorated with larger-than-life crystals and head-to-toe embellishments hit the catwalk, each more brilliant than the last. Each look proved just how ambiguous jewels and gems can be: they can be dreamy and delicate or edgy and modern.
Raf Simons of Christian Dior took a charming approach by accenting an abstractly embellished pastel dress with ladylike pleats. J.Crew took a similar approach, embellishing a proper pencil skirt with colorful stones (pictured, above) while the French Connection dress (pictured, right) feels moodier with its dark hues and sheer panels.
One of the best facets of a bejeweled style is that your look will flow seamlessly from day to night. To dazzle during the day, we suggest you pair your jeweled piece with minimal separates. Crisp, clean lines will give the ornamentation all the attention they deserves while keeping your look as casual as possible. For night, as hard as may be, leave your accessories at home. The jewels speak volume alone, so statement necklaces and look-at-me shoes need not apply.
