Cate Blanchett nabbed an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her part in Blue Jasmine—a Woody Allen film about a New York socialite (Blanchett), whose life is falling to pieces. In honor of Blanchett’s big night, we’re taking a deeper look at her style. Judging from past awards shows (we still can’t get over her dress from the 2011 Academy Awards), the actress is well on her way to a fabulous frock — and Oscars glory.
Usually wears: High-fashion, structured gowns that make a bold statement on the red carpet.
Wildcard factor: When it comes down to it, Blanchett believes the red carpet is all about enjoying yourself and representing yourself through fashion, and she’s not afraid to take a chance. “It should be fun. I mean, if you take it all too seriously the whole fun goes out of it,” she told InStyle this week at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon . “You never expect to be standing here, and when you are, you’re just the luckiest gal or guy. It’s been an extraordinary year for cinema, and I never take that for granted. But the rest of it should be fun.”
What we’d like to see: “From Cate, I’m honestly hoping to see Givenchy,” says designer Rachel Roy in InStyle‘s #OscarsDressDebate. “I think that she pulls it off with a modern elegance, but also this kind of refinement that old school Hollywood had. We really don’t get that from many people.” We agree, and have high hopes Blanchett will choose an unforgettable gown with a major wow-factor.
