This fall, your classic red manicure is getting a rocker-chic edge! New York Fashion Week never fails to inspire the upcoming nail art trends of the season, and we’re already eager to try out the crimson and black color combo trending all over the runways. At Rebecca Minkoff, the tried-and-true French manicure got a modern upgrade by adding an inky noir tip to an oxblood base, while lead manicurist Gina Edwards for KISS Nails revamped the half-moon pattern by creating a scalloped shape in the same color scheme for Charlotte Ronson‘s show. Models at the Mathieu Mirano show took the term “couture claws” to a new level, where famed nail artist Miss Pop matched their tips to their Christian Louboutin heels by painting half the nail in Essie’s Bordeaux lacquer, and the other half in the Licorice shade ($8.50 each; essie.com).
On the more daring end of the spectrum, Nicole Miller‘s warrior women complemented their bold smoky eyes and intricate updos with flame-inspired nail art. After applying a solid base coat, lead manicurist Katie Jane Hughes swept on Butter London’s Union Jack Black ($10; butterlondon.com), and layered a matte clear coat on top. She then dipped a nail art brush into Butter London’s Knees Up ($10; butterlondon.com) and applied the color in quick strikes to form a flamed effect. And no shiny top coat here — the contrast between the matte black and metallic red add to the appeal. Would you try the black and red nail trend? Tell us in the comments!
