Milliner Eugenia Kim will step back into the world of footwear for fall 2014. The designer will launch a women’s shoe collection later this year, which will include 15 styles designed in-house and produced in Italy. This is not the first time the brand has tried footwear—Kim launched a line of shoes in 2003, and it won her the CFDA Accessories Designer of the Year award in 2004. However, the endeavor was shut down in 2005 after production demands proved too much for the small company. Now entering her 16th year in the accessories market, Kim feels like its the right time to extend her brand’s reach into the world of footwear.
The Eugenia Kim shoe collection is a reflection of the accessories brand’s playful and witty aesthetic, offering styles that are unique in their ability to make a statement, while also retaining a sense of classic femininity. Inspired by the dark side of 1970s rock n’ roll and lessons learned from the designer’s first attempt at shoes, the collection includes a variety of heel heights and shapes, including a flatform and classic sculpted heel, and is crafted from luxe materials like crinkle metallic leather, mink fur, pearl cabochon, burnt ostrich feather adornments, and custom rose gold hardware. Prices for the collection range from $535 to $1095, and it will make its debut at the upcoming New York Fashion Week. “As a company specializing in a niche category, we had stamped our unique vision onto the accessories market,” Kim stated. “It only felt natural to expand this creative vision to shoes.”
