Crop tops may be dominating the runways lately, but leave it to a 6-months pregnant Kerry Washington to transform the trend into a show-stopping maternity piece. At last night’s 20th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Scandal star stepped foot onto the red carpet in a midriff-baring two-piece – and instantly captivated us all.
Washington proudly showed off her bump in a custom Prada ensemble with a pink beaded crop top paired with a full skirt, completing the look with Harry Winston diamond earrings, a matching cocktail ring, and a pair of Christian Louboutin black satin and lace pointed-toe pumps. The outfit showed just a sliver of skin, and was a unique take on the concept of red carpet pregnancy style.
“It’s different and fun,” Washington told InStyle.com at a pre-SAG Awards party in regards to dressing her bump. When choosing a red carpet gown these days, first and foremost Washington goes for “comfort,” but that’s not the only priority for the style maven. “For me, I just always have to love it. I have to put it on and love it.”
When she’s not turning heads at awards shows, she’s adjusting her style for her costume designs on Scandal, as well. “On the show, it’s been really fun,” she told us. “[Costume Designer] Lyn Paolo and I really have been working hard to keep the fashion very elevated but also make room for this little human.”
Washington has proved throughout her pregnancy that a baby bump is the best accessory on the red carpet, so we’re loving that she wanted to show it off.

How does Sarah Hyland prep for an awards show? For the 2014 SAG Awards, the star’s hairstylist Ryan Richman and makeup artist Allan Avendano gave InStyle.com a behind-the-scenes look at how her stunning hair and makeup came together. “As a team, we were inspired by classic style icons,” said Richman. The resulting effect was definitely glamorous, but didn’t distract from her hi-low Pamella Roland gown — or those amazing Jimmy Choo heels. From the retro references that inspired the team, to the finished look, get a behind-the-scenes peek at how Hyland got ready for the big event in our gallery!

If you’re an avid New Girl fan, you’d know that Zooey Deschanel’s quirky character, Jess Day, is known for her signature stripes. But costume designer Deb McGuire decided to switch it up for Tuesday night’s episode with a different print dress ($219, zappos.com). “I’m crazy about polka-dots, stripes, and vintage patterns.” McGuire exclusively told InStyle.com. “This week, what looks like black-and-white polka-dots are actually tiny white apples, which speaks to Jess, the teacher.”
