Fashion Visionary Hussein Chalayan Joins French Label VionnetJan 3, 2014 @ 5:25 pm
Fashion visionary Hussein Chalayan has just been tapped to design for Vionnet‘s Demi-Couture collection. The innovative designer, known for his avant-garde designs and innovative techniques, will work alongside Vionnet’s creative director Goga Ashkenazi to create a line of one of a kind dresses for the brand that will be shown at Haute Couture week in Paris on January 21st. “I am thrilled and honored to be designing the Demi-Couture collection for Vionnet,” said Chalayan. Now in its third season, Vionnet’s Demi-Couture line—a favorite of stars like Diane Kruger, Natalie Portman and Gwyneth Paltrow—mades its debut to celebrate the house’s 100th anniversary. The collection is a special concept that unites the high-quality fabrications and impeccable craftsmanship of formal haute couture dressmaking with the accessibility of ready-to-wear, pushing design to its most detailed limits.
“Chalayan is one of the most creative and provocative designers working in fashion today,” Ashkenazi said in a statement. “I have always been intrigued by his conceptual approach and the fearless way his work travels outside the traditional confines of fashion. It is an honor for me to work with someone I admire so much. I know he will bring something special to Vionnet’s Demi-Couture collection.” If we can get a hint of what’s to come from Chalayan’s past creations for his eponymous line, then there will be some major fashion moments coming our way. Some of his most famous designs include a multitude of outfits worn by Lady Gaga like a gown made of glowing crystals and the unforgettable embryonic egg ensemble that she arrived in at the 2011 Grammy Awards. Other notable designs by Chalayan include furniture that turns into dresses, a bubble mini-dress, and a frock that emits laser beams.
We can’t wait to see how the designer brings his unique vision to Parisian couture!
