The famed French shop Colette has teamed up with PONY on a limited edition collection of two pairs of covetable sneakers. The PONY x Colette collaboration infuses PONY’s iconic street-inspired, old-school Topstar kicks with the Parisian shop’s Pantone hue: sapphire blue. Have a lot of holiday parties on your social calendar but don’t know what to wear? InStyle’s Senior Market Editor and Digital Correspondent Dana Avidan-Cohn has figured it all out for you. Today, she stopped by Hallmark Channel’s Better Show to help pick the best polished holiday looks for every kind of party, whether it’s a casual get-together or a fancy New Year’s Eve bash.
According to Avidan-Cohn, the play of textures — plus anything that shouts glitz and glamor – are big this year, so key pieces you should look for include status jackets, fur stoles, feather-hemmed dresses, and shiny blouses. Scroll down to get more of Avidan-Cohn’s top tips on how to dress for your holiday parties and we promise, you’ll be sure to ring in 2014 (or the end of this year!) in style.
2013 clearly saw some amazing footwear, and our favorites each had a special element. The flat was back this year in a major way—thank goodness—and was more stylish than ever! Brogues made their way onto our feet in escalated colors and designs. From companies like AGL and Cole Haan and designer Christian Louboutin, this menswear staple is one we hope sticks around. Another flat that was hot to trot this year? Gucci‘s iconic loafer, featuring a horse bit across the instep, celebrated its 60th anniversary by proving they are here for the long haul. If you’re more of a heels girl, we loved Manolo Blahnik’s made-to-order BB shoes (inspired by Brigitte Bardot) that are available online from Neiman Marcus for $595. Customize by heel height and color for your own perfect pair.

Happy Birthday, Katie Holmes! The actress turns 35 today (she shares a birthday with Brad Pitt, lucky girl), and she sure has a lot to celebrate from 2013. Just this year, Katie has become the first-ever celebrity face of Bobbi Brown cosmetics, has signed on as the co-owner and spokeswoman of Alterna haircare, and has joined the star cast of the The Giver, the film adaptation of Lois Lowry’s novel — we’d say this was Katie’s best year yet!
With multiple films and fashion shows for her clothing line, Holmes & Yang, in the works for 2014, the actress and designer has a lot to look forward to as well! In honor of the star’s birthday, we’re taking a look at her style evolution from tomboy-ish Joey Potter in Dawson’s Creek to chic red-carpet regular.
Want to make a statement at your next holiday party? Take a cue from Selena Gomez. While attending a concert in NYC, the singer went for an unexpected pop of purple on her lips, and managed to look completely glam in it. “We wanted to create a fun and festive look that wasn’t predictable,” said makeup artist Gita Bass, who used the Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense lipstick in #15 ($20; sephora.com) on the star.
To get a similar look, first make sure lips are flake-free (use a toothbrush to softly scrub away any dead skin), and then outline the mouth with a nude pencil. Swipe on a coat directly from the tube for true intensity and remember to “keep the rest of the face pretty neutral when using a strong color like this,” added Bass.
