Today is #GivingTuesday: Shop for a Cause and Give Back to Those In Need!Dec 3, 2013 @ 9:02 am
With all those deals you snagged on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, today is your chance to give back to those in need with #GivingTuesday. With the help of some of Hollywood’s boldface names, including the late Paul Walker, we compiled a list of four organizations to help get you started on where you can send donations. Happy giving!
1. Paul Walker and Reach Out Worldwide
You can honor Paul Walker‘s legacy by donating to his charity, Reach Out Worldwide, which is dedicated to sending skilled first-aid responders to areas affected by natural disasters, including those affected by the Philippines typhoon and tornadoes in Indiana. Just before his untimely death, Walker held a fundraiser for ROWW which raised about $1 million in toys and games for victims and with plans to continue the work of organization, what better day to give back than today! To donate to Walker’s charity, visit roww.org.
2. Rashida Jones and International Rescue Committee
Shop meaningful gifts chosen by celebrities including Rashida Jones and John Legend from International Rescue Committee‘s holiday catalog. Your purchase of something as simple as mosquito nets ($18) or an emergency medical transport ($60) will tremendously aid those who have been uprooted by either war or natural disaster in more than 40 countries and 22 US cities. To shop the star’s charitable gift picks, visit rescue.org.
3. Kevin Bacon’s Six Degrees Organization and CrowdRise
Here’s a challenge you won’t be able to refuse! Help a nonprofit charity qualify to win matching funds on CrowdRise with the help of Kevin Bacon’s Six Degrees organization, which compiles charities for you to choose from to either donate, pay forward with Good Cards, or even create your own social fundraiser. The challenge, which includes Wings for Kids, City Year, and Arts for Every Student charities, starts at 11am EST on crowdrise.com.
4. Fergie and Dress for Success
Donate a pair of your gently used professional shoes to one of Dress for Success’ 50 affiliates across the US for #GivingShoesDay to help disadvantaged women dress-to-impress as they re-enter the workforce, plus if you’re one of the top 10 shoe donors, you will receive a free pair of Fergie‘s holiday red Palace heels from her shoe line, Fergie Footwear. To go one step further, when you shop the limited-edition pumps ($119.99), forty percent of the shoe sales will be donated to Dress for Success (one of Fergie’s favorite charities) now through the beginning of the New Year. Giving back never looked this good! To donate a pair of shoes today, visit dressforsuccess.org to find a nearby drop-off location or shop the Palace heels at fergieshoes.com.
