Dancing with the Stars Costumes

On last night’s Dancing with the Stars, Karina Smirnoff and Corbin Bleu performed a Tango to the fired-up melody of Fall Out Boy’s “Light Em Up,” which Smirnoff took into consideration when designing her first costume of the night.

Smirnoff wore a nude mesh dress, and had orange, yellow, and red hues airbrushed on, along with rhinestone accents—an outfit The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen would approve of. “I wanted to stay true to the theme of the dance,” the dancer told InStyle.com exclusively. “I really wanted it to look like our outfits were on fire!”

For their second performance, the partners danced a Rumba, and looked to a different storyline for costume inspiration. “I was under a spell during the first dance, and was trying to break out of it in our second performance,” reveals Smirnoff.  The dancer aimed to incorporate light, innocence, and edge into her design, which included sheer fabrics, as well as a sweetheart neckline and high-low skirt. “When you think of silk, you think ‘dreamy,’” Smirnoff said. “But when you add in lace, you think ‘sexy,’ which has a daring feel.”

The odds were definitely in their favor Monday night. The duo earned a total of 75/80, the second highest score of the night, right behind Amber Riley and Derek Hough’s 79/80. Shockingly, Leah Remini and Tony Dovolani were eliminated this week, leaving four couples in the ballroom.

Tune in next Monday night at 8/7c on ABC for the live results show.
